I am back!!

Well hello guys, so far I still have my Legend, but I have a little problem here that I hope someone can help me with. Recently, the tranny stopped shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Before anyone suggests cleaning the solenoids for the tranny, I need to mention that I replaced those with a brand new set from Acura when I originally had an issue like this, which fixed it. Anyway, I had to remove the seats and the carpet so I can wash it, since a nasty water leak from the sunroof drain ruined it. And I found that the Timer Rad Fan wires in the connector are completely corroded. So badly, they were not even in the harness, they broke off. Also, the TRF board is in a similar way (ECU is fine). Since the tranny relies so closely on engine cooling, is it possible that this is related to this issue? Several trouble shooting steps for the tranny points to engine coolant sensor, or faulty cooling fan control unit. Any ideas? Suggestions?

How does your trans fluid look and smell? Is it brown and smells burnt or is it still bright red? If its any color other than red I would do a flush, (not a drain and fill). Start there and see what happens. Btw, welcome back.

I checked the schematic once, when I had a trans solenoid lock-up problem, and the command path (voltage) goes like this: TW sensor > ECU > Fan Control Unit > TCU (in my instance, solenoid lockup command) > trans lockup solenoid).

I had overheating due to no cooling fan operation; a bad FCU was the problem, but replacing it also fixed my trans lock-up failure problem.

So, firstly, all bad, broken, or corroded connections in this electrical path must be properly repaired for the trans to shift normally.

Sounds like I am on the right path!! Thanks, that gives me hope. And 95AcLegendOwner, the fluid is nice and bright red. I replace the fluid quite regularly, after 30,000 miles.

I forgot to update. Reworked the TRF unit by reflowing the solder joints and cleaned everything. I had to rebuild an electrical path in the board due to corrosion, but is all good now. Washed it with a special chemical, reinstalled everything, and replaced the defective harness. All good, now shifting from 1st gear. But of course, I have a new issue now, but it may be another problem. So I created a new thread.
