instrument cluster

Hi, does anyone know the differences between the instrumment cluster of a 2 door vs a 4 door one? The parts for 2 door are more expensive and harder to find. My speed sensor is bad so I really need only the speedometer.

If your speed sensor is bad and you're looking for just the speedometer, I'm assuming you have a manual transmission car?

If so, you might try this:

1. Carefully remove the speed sensor from the speedometer. It should be held in place with two Torx fasteners.

2. Get a 20 watt or so soldering iron and re-flow all the component solder connections. Don't heat the components excessively. Use just enough heat to just melt the solder.

3. Remount the sensor onto the speedometer.

I had a problem with my cruise control dropping out and eventually, it quit working al together. I traced the problem to the speed sensor and soon found out that it isn't serviced by Honda. I was quoted $320 - $450 for a new speedometer.

Re-flowing the solder connections cured the problem.

Thanks for your reply, Paulo. Actually my car is automatic. A bad speed sensor give engine code 11 and trans code 4. I took the instrumment cluster apart using only phillip screwdriver (?). What I believe to be the speed sensor is a small circuit boar with a few cap. and res. and something has rectangle shape with a slot that a small wheel run through. Is this circuit boar the speed sensor? (How about the one on the AT housing? ) Is this the circuit that you mention?
