Just installed alarm system
I got the clifford concept 550 system, I really like it.
The install was alot easier then alot of people might say it is; I can offer a few pointers: SOLDER THE IGNITION WIRES! All of the wires you will need to access can be found in the kick panel close to the fuse block. The lock and unlock wires can be tapped right outside the lock relay. You will have to remove the relay block to access, then look for a black box with a green connector. Your lock wires are located there. The trunk pop was probably the most tricky part of the whole install. You can either run a wire through the door, or attempt to find the wire among a group of 30 wires located below the fuse box that run to the rear of the car. The wires are tightly packed and offer a few of the same color combonations so good luck Test everything before, durring, and after the install. It can be a pain to have everything back together only to realize your high beams dont work, or your turn signals no longer flash (happened to me). Solder everything you can, if not possible, use non insulated connectors and shrink tubes. Solder the ignition wires no matter what (there is alot of juice running through them). DO NOT FOR ANY REASON USE T TAPS OR SCOTCH LOCKS, they actualy cut though the many strands of copper and can break 15 year old wires apart with the quickness. Keep alarm wires as short as possible, zip tie them, then cover with electrical tape. There is very little room under the dash of the legend and cramming alot of wires can be tricky. After install, test everything again, make sure it operates from the alarm and from inside the car (like the parking lights, horn, locks, etc), then test everything else (like the headlights, turnsignals, wipers, etc.) because it is very easy to dissconnect something without even realizing it. Time for install without trunk pop: 3 hours Time to hide and cram all wires: 2 hours Time to add the trunk pop: 2 hours 30 mins Have fun and good luck ![]()

Hey, I had mine done at a shop...but I went back over and added a few goodies.
I did the trunk pop this morning, so that if someone got into the car there is no way to open the trunk, as I bypassed the factory switch. Locating the trunk selenoid wire is not fun! I eventually cut open the tube of 30 wires that runs down the length of the drivers side, instead of trying to find it below the fuse panel, it allows for more room. I got lucky, as the white/black wire was on the very top. I also went a little overboard and added a few extra sirens. I have a timer circuit that activates the extra sirens about 2 seconds after the alarm is tripped...this gives the theif time to stick his under the dash and then all hell breaks loose! After the 2 seconds is up, the horn starts honking, an external siren located under the trunk goes off. I have another in the trunk that is activated. Here is the good part, located under the radio I have a siren facing towards the pedals....stick your head under there to cut any wires and you're facing a lot of pain. To add to the mix I installed 2 pain generating peizos under the dash. Overkill...probably, the first time I tested the wires, I touched the leads for maybe 1/2 a second.....even at a short chirp...my ears were ringing. Now, sirens are all good and dandy..until the battery gets cut. So I went ahead and detached the factory hood release, so that you need a pair of pliars to pull the two cables. Im also going to added a hood lock and battery backup. The legend is too valuable to lose and the fact that I spend too much on stereo equipment doesn't help either. Good points stated above, solder everything you can, with heat shrink tubing and electrical tape. Im not sure about other legends, but my legend doesn't have a whole lot of factory wire loom, most of the wire harness are tapped up with black electrical tape. To keep it looking as factory as possible, I didn't use any wire loom. |

They say if a theif really wants your car or whatever is in it, they will get it somehow....I've just put a bigger obstacle in the way compared to most car alarms. |

factory alarm
Factory alarm Pros and cons (for me at least):
Pros: 1. Nice factory "honk-honk-honk" 2. Factory hood and trunk pins (rarity on a 15 year old car) 3. I belive it has a starter kill, but dont quote me on that. 4. Well hidden, cant simply be removed. Cons: 1. No keyless entry 2. No remote trunk pop (pain in the a** to hook up tho) 3. Not upgradable 4. Hard to tell when the system is armed or dissarmed.. 5. Security LED hard to see day or night 6. No shock sensor 7. Can be dissarmed by unlocking the doors, even from the inside. All a thief would need to do is break out the window (no shock sensor so no alarm), unlock the door with the unlock switch, and open the door. Also, concidering the age of this car, I am sure a master key set is readly avalible to anyone willing to pay. **I don't think honda had too many tumbler combonations because my 88 Accord and 88 Legend keys have the exact same key patterns**

The stock alarm isn't bad and the only reason that I got my new system was to add keyless and trunk pop. Best Buy installed it and even tapped into the factory trunk and hood sensor wires (I was quite impressed).

My car has trunk pop included, and part of the security system.
Unless you're refering to external trunk pop via key remote or something. And, didn't 1989-90 Legends have a keyless entry option? At least, the keypad punch combination on the door? Seems that would convert to keyless remote easily. But, what do I know? My security system works great. I don't feel the need to try to improve on it.

Legends are for Lovers

I am currently looking into installing a keyless entry system(there are several on Ebay for ~$15). Im not interested in a security system, per se, but im looking to save my door locks from wear and tear.
My question: The stock alarm is armed when locking the doors. It is triggered(will sound) if one were to unlock the doors from the inside. Isnt this essentially what keyless entry does, unlock the doors via the actuator? How will using the keyless entry unlock option NOT trigger the factory alarm?
