KA?

Hi All,
Just wondering if perhaps we could figure out how the series went for the first generation Legend.
We have KA1 through to KA6...
I think it would be safe to assume that the KA1 was the original 1985 sedan with the 2.0 Litre engine.
KA2 was the 2.5 Litre sedan from 1986-1988?
KA3 was the coupe from 1987-1990?
KA4 was the sedan from 1989-1990?

Here is where I need some help... KA5 & KA6. I have a feeling that the Turbo Legend may be a KA6 and perhaps the JDM Coupe was KA5 however I have nothing to substantiate this. Has anyone got any info on this? If teh new Zealand guys could check their VIN's that would be swell as they have imports from Japan there.

No, a KA5 would be the C20T engine. KA4's, such as yours and mine, ran from 1988-1990.

Thanks for that, added to favourites...

KA1 - All 2.0 Litre N/A Sedans
KA2 - 86-87 2.5 Litre Sedans
KA3 - All Coupes
KA4 - 88-90 2.7 Litre Sedans
KA5 - All Turbo Sedans

I don't know if these statements are correct:

In 1989 the KA1 platform was renamed KA5
In 1989 the KA4 platform was renamed KA6

Where does this leave the KA6?

The Honda Japan website gets a little vague with exactly where and how those were renamed. When I put that information together, the closest I could get was that somewhere in 1989 (for the final model year, but only in Japan) the KA1 platform (having the C20 engine) became the KA5 with the addition of the turbocharged model.

That leaves the very confusing KA4-KA6 enigma. They offered so many different trim levels (and in 1989-1990, some trim levels and packages were called KA4, and some were called KA6) that it's difficult to tell where KA4's left off and KA6's started. In all probability, they overlapped.

For certain, the KA6 designation was only used on Japanese and European RHD models. The KA2, KA3, and KA4 are the only platforms that were imported to the U.S.

Thanks for clearing that up. I had a bit of an idea, but as I said KA6 had me beat.
The US only got KA2, KA3 & KA4... right? You didn't receive the KA1 with the 2.0 Litre motor right.

I definetely want a KA6 All of the best bits from the Legends development over 5 years yum yum.

It just came to me the other day, whilst Legend shopping. The KA5/KA6 designation must include the redesigned hood (bonnet) and grille arrangement. For example:

KA4

KA6

So perhaps the KA5 is turbo and the KA6 is non-turbo, but they both have that new nose. (That seems plausible)

I recognise that car , I was going to buy it however it was too far away and I couldn't afford it at the time.
