KYB or Tokico ???

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of changing my old stock shocks.
I could get lots of information on shocks and lowering in this board, but I don't want to lower my car. So if someone who are using performance shocks (Tokico or KYB...Bilstein is too expensive for me...) with stock springs, plz let me know how they are. Thanks.

Last I heard, Tokicos discontinues our shocks. Depending if you have a coupe, a sedan made within 86-88 or a sedan made within 89-90, you got options. KYB is always one (for all years). Bilstein (all coupes, 89-90 sedan, 86-88 sedan front only), and Koni (best of my knowlage, all years). Now these shocks are listed from cheapest to most expensive. Now, I've never had my car w/ fresh shocks with stock springs, but I can tell you w/ the Intrax/KYB setup, it feels nice, but the front end does tend to get bouncy at times.

I have a 1990 sedan. I also heard tokico shocks for legend are discontinued, but I can still see several websites posting them. Koni shocks are available only for ~88 models as far as I know.

i have the kyb's on my coupe. I have eibachs springs on the front and stock springs on the back (b/c of rims) and i'm very happy w/ the kyb's. They don't feel much different then the stock set up.

good luck

when it looks like you have "3 wheel motion" in effect and you dont have a hydro ride.

I have the KYBs under iNtrax springs and respect them.

Ok.
Hydro = Hydraulics
Ride = Your car
Hydro Ride = Car equiped with hydraulic suspension
3 wheel motion = while your driving you use your hydraulic suspension to pull one wheel completely off the ground while the other 3 stay touching, hence BOUNCING UNSTABILITY (kinda like when your shocks/struts go out)

For what its worth, I can tell you that bilstein on eibach springs is pretty damn stiff, yet still not too harsh for daily driving. I like it SO MUCH better than stock, it makes driving a true pleasure, you'll be impressed with how much better handling and cornering (take your corners at LEAST @ 30mph, you'll see) your legend will have to offer. Good choice btw! And high-speed freeway travel becomes much much more comfortable, esp. if your freeways have broad switch-backing curves (one direction and then the other in under 1/2 a mile, etc. etc.) like the ones we have here in Honolulu.

Just think (if you're considering buying yourself a cheaper brand), you've already saved up to break even for KYB's or another cheaper brand...but if you just continue to save a LITTLE bitty more, you can try a better shock IMHO.

*excuse my superfly driving lingo, yo.

yo joek i have groundcontrol coilovers on my 88 coupe w/ 18inch rims. Now i am about to replace the struts. I have heard nothing but, good things about tokico as a matter of fact i have been waiting 6 months for these freaking struts from nopi they have been on back order. so, if you can get them, get them while they last. Also, consider kyb's if you get a chance.
