Look what's behind my mud flaps (sun roof leak)

I followed the advise from the leaky sunroof thread and i took some pics.

Here's all the dirt and leaves that I found behind both of my front mud flaps.

Here's what the drain looks like after you remove the mudflap and peel back the wheel well cover. The green line is from my weed wacker.

This is the drain from the rear holes. They are located under the car behind the rear mud flag (you don't need to remove anything). I couldn't locate the rear drain holes that are by the sunroof, so I just stuck the wire in from the bottom and it cleared out the dirt. (putting water into the sunroof drain helped clear out the dirt).

It was a really easy fix.
Thanks for the idea guys.

How in the hell did you get a hand broom through your front sunroof drain?

That's about what I had when I cleaned mine out last year, less the hand broom. :p

It's something that actually should be scheduled to be done once every year or two.

Thumbs up That's a Great Suggestion

I did notice a little water in the recessed box in the left hand corner in the trunk after a good wash does that mean my drains are clogged?I did wonder how the sunroof drained .Thanks

I don't know, you may have to look around and make sure that the rear drain lines are still connected to the outside nipple.

After unscrewing the mudflaps and rolling around under my car all I have to say is that RUST Sucks.

Good Luck

Rust does suck.....just getting all mine taken care of around the rear wheel wells and gas tank filler. I also had to replace the trim between the trunk and rear bumper. The body shop where I'm having the work done took it off to paint it and the rust had eaten it away. I also had rust around both top sides of the front windshield. $2100 to repair all the rust, sand and prime the body, sealer coat, 3 coats of base and clear. It should be ready this Monday.

I do love your color !!!!!!!! Mine's black.

My holes where slightly different.

I thought ESTI had the same yr car I had.I have an 89 sedan and the drain holes are in slightly different locations behind the mud flaps.I went and bought LIQUID PLUMR instead of DRAINO since PLUMR is not as thick.I then used the wire hanger trick for just the two front drain holes in the sunroof.I shoved almost the whole wire hanger down the drains holes and twisted them while doing that.I then used the PLUMR in both holes and let it sit for about 30 min.I then poured the hot water and let that sit for 12 hrs. Both sides of the drain seems to be opened.Actually I first removed the mud flaps and scraped the dirt from where the water passes. This passage is behind the mud flaps and a wire cannot be inserted in the holes because they are not visible. The rear drain holes in the sunroof cannot be seen and the drain holes are under the car and in front of both rear tires( under body).Again you cannot stick the wire through the rears.I would think an 89 would be the same of all first generations.

The difference maybe becuase you have a 4dr and mine is a coupe.
I wouldn't trust those DRAINO products becuase the chemicals will break down the plastic tubes.
Some people have mentioned that a wire hanger may be too rigid and you can separate the tube drain system. I found the weed wacker plastic line perfect for the job. I know it feels alittle flimsy but it's perfect.

nomotiv4all- Your right, I never thought about that.

Bobster- Thanks
