LS stereo bugs
hey guys, im lookin for a little help here... my 89' ls that i saved from the crusher has always (the 3 months i've owned her) had a high pitched buzzing coming from the radio that is intermittent in its strength. also only the front right speaker works all the time, occasionally the front left does too. this weekend i got around to ripping out the bose system and soldering up a new CD/MP3 player, but lo and behold, the buzzing/speaker problem is still there.
i did an upgrade like this on my old 86' camry and had to bypass a stock amp to get a similar whistle to stop. anyone know if there's an amp or something anywhere in the car that could be malfunctioning? if it helps, my fuel gague is busted and roof leaks too, but music is a higher priority lol |

#1 - you ripped out the old Bose system ?? In the system for that car, each speaker is amped. You could have kept the head unit in and sent the speaker/amps back to Bose and they would have rebuilt ( new amps and cones ) them for you for $ 75 each. I've done that on the 2 LS Coupe's
( '89 & '90 ) that I have and the sound systems sound awesome. On both I also added an indash OEM CD player. In your case you'll now have to decide what you want to do...put in new aftermarket speakers ( there are threads on this ) or have the speakers repaired. If you don't the Bose system anymore PM me and we'll dissuss a price if you want to sell it. #2 - the roof leaks. The system was designed to. There are 4 roof drains...and they're probably clogged. There are many threads on this repair. #3 - as far as the fuel gauge being broken....that could be either the gauge cluster itself or the sending unit !

If the buzzing is in time with the engine revving, you'could have a bad ignition coil, or a bad "radio noise condenser" located near the coil. This noise could also be caused by a poorly grounded antenna.

I know in my car when i changed the stock deck with my JVC unit none of my speakers would work till i bypassed all the amps. Anyone know how much it would cost to have the front speakers rebuilt, one of mine is blown but i love there sound. for a stereo system to be 15 years old and still sound so great is just another prop to put up to the legend name.

well, i was thinking the door boxes were designed to work with the bose speaker. im still running 50 watts to each speaker. But im thinkin of going aftermarket. Either Alpine or Blaupunkt
