G1: Manual Shifter Boot Replacment

Hey guys,

This was a vanity purchase…bought a new shifter boot because a little bit of the chrome trim ring was chipped and was showing white plastic behind it. Part number 83413-SG0-A00ZA $25. Removal of old shifter boot is illustrated below…basically remove two screws from coin tray area. Lift center plate upward. Remove screws holding boot to center plate…makes it easier to remove knob which is removed by unscrewing it counter clockwise. There are two tabs that hold the knob to the boot…yes…the chrome ring is part of the boot. Installation is even easier because you don’t need to have the knob attached to the boot. Attach boot to center plate, install center plate, screw shift knob back on till tight, bring boot up and snap into knob. The leather on the new boot looks a little different…finer grain. I like it and am glad I finally fixed this nagging, though minor, problem…really…what’s the one thing you touch more than your steering wheel? Anybody need a blemished shift boot? Later.

Looks very nice! Wouldn't have thought a shift boot could make that much difference.

same in mine ... love the REAL wood. So much warmer than that imitation crap. People get in my car and comment on the nice 'custom' woodgrain ... im like, try again, its factory.

Looks good, so where did you get the stereo set from? Was it from a Vigor or Integra or something?

You may be right a little....it's not an exact match. You have to remember that the '89LS did not originally come with wood grain; it was only offered for 1990. These are pieces I've purchased over time from various sources and retrofitted into the '89LS when I restored it. Here's what the console originally looked like:

thanks.......John

That's a stock original Bose Stereo and the OEM Acura CD indash unit offered in the Legend as an accessory.

Well, the '89 looks stock, but the '90 doesn't, mostly I guess because of the Acura logo on it, which hadn't been released yet, right?

Im pretty sure this is the year when Acura was in the stages of changing the logo. In a 1990 it would have been an option and could have had the logo, esspecialy if it was late in 1990. You have to remember that in July of 1990 the 2nd gen legend made its apperance with the new Acura logo on it.

Yeah, I understand the timing of the new logo, but I just don't see Acura putting the new logo on an item that goes in an older car that never had the logo.
