yeah i was looking for a daily driver car, when i bought my civic i was looking at this real sweet ride, but when carfax ran thru it had close to 120k miles more than the odometer said it did.... opened my eyes real fast

A lien is an ownership right to a piece of property - in this case, a vehicle.

When a financial institution loans money to someone purchasing a car or truck, the financial institution places a lien on the vehicle. The lien should be remain on the title until the loan is paid in full. Carfax is notified by the state department of motor vehicles when a title is issued with a lien recorded on it. However, Carfax is not notified when a lien is released or removed from a title once the loan has been paid in full. We would suggest that you contact the appropriate motor vehicle department to inquire with them as to the status of the lien.

When a financial institution loans money to someone purchasing a car or truck, the financial institution places a lien on the vehicle. The lien should be remain on the title until the loan is paid in full. Carfax is notified by the state department of motor vehicles when a title is issued with a lien recorded on it. However, Carfax is not notified when a lien is released or removed from a title once the loan has been paid in full. We would suggest that you contact the appropriate motor vehicle department to inquire with them as to the status of the lien.
