Oil level switch and blinking light

There's been lots of discussion about the blinking oil warning light issue: whether the problem is an actual oil level or oil pressure issue, or whether its an electrical issue with the oil pressure switch (located at the oil filter) ..or a bad circuit board in the instrument cluster (as my problem was) ..or a problem with the oil level switch in the oil pan. I recently learned that only the LS models have the oil level switch in the oil pan ...works with the computerized info centre in the dash on the LS models. Is this indeed the case ...or do the L models have the oil pan switch as well?? If only LS models have the switch, that eliminates one possible source for the L model owners with this problem.

Engine runs great for the kind of mileage it has. Uses 1 quart of oil every 4.5k miles (I use 5k mile change intervals). I run Chevron Delo 400 15w-40.

There is valve noise, but not the click-click kind of noise. Mine is more of a clack-clack sound. The engine is quiet at start up and after long trips down the highways. Most of the noise is present during around town driving.

I'm on my second clutch which has around 125K miles on it.

I'm about 9k miles away from my third timing belt. The first one was changed at 136k; the second belt was replaced at 266k.

The transmission has never been apart (as has the engine), but it's getting a little "notchy" when shifting. I plan to replace just the synchros when it comes time to replace the clutch.

Oh, yeah....the ABS still works.

Amazing that your ABS works. My engine and tranny ( auto ) have never been apart either and my mileage is comparable. Have had 3 water pumps/timing chains done and at the last one had the oil pump done just in case. Not much lifter noise if any at all....no clank though......that sounds ominous !!!!!

Oil level switch and blinking light

I have both the 1988 Coupe L and the 1989 Coupe L. There is a significant difference in the standard equipment. The 1988 has the Information System, whereas the 1989 does not have the Information System as standard equipment.

Not strange when you think about it. In '88 you got it free. In '89 you had to pay extra for the Information System in the form of an LS. A typical Japanese way of raising the price.

Kyle needs to read these:

http://forums.p.legend.org/first/msgs/14449.phtml
http://forums.p.legend.org/first/msgs/14467.phtml

My oil light kept going off when I hit bumps. This is what fixed it.
