Lightbulb oil pan gasket?

ive got a leak there and i need to replace the oil pan gasket and ive got a few questions to ask before i go ahead with this.

1) what kind of gasket is best, oem , rtv silicone only , or from some autoparts store gasket.

2)is there a way to do this without dropping the exhaust?

3) has anyone ever done this and never had a leak again after?

IDK about G1's but my mechanic did mine for me last year and I haven't had a leak since. I believe he used HondaBond liquid gasket on mine. Hopefully a G1 owner can chime in on this though...

I'd go with OEM, but if you don't have the money to pay, then any auto parts store should have one. Someone said you can have the exhaust on, but I think its a lot easier to remove it. Also, be very careful when you start tightening the bolts. They can break easily since they are really old.

the oil pan bolts, they are really old and small, be sure not to over torque them.

I've done it on a G1 legend using (I believe) a Felpro gasket plus a bead of RTV at the seams between the block and oil pump at the front and seal carrier at the back. I dropped down the exhaust system and removed the cross brace and bell housing cover.

It would be a good idea to either clean or replace the PCV valve at the same time.

For the exhaust manifold studs try some penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. I would use a 6 point deep socket to loosen the nuts. You really don't want to use too much torque in loosening them since you don't want to break the studs. Heating them up with a propane torch might break the rust, though I've never done that myself.

On the oil pan I believe you are saying the threads in the block for the oil pan bolts are stripped. You can probably helicoil them. I believe it's a 6X1 mm thread.
