Problem with the cooling fan
I've noticed a problem with my cooling fan, well not really a problem. The fan almost never turns off, I think there is something wrong with the sensor or something. Do you guys know were the sensor is for the cooling fan?

I have had a problem with my cooling fans as well, but almost the opposite if what Migey is describing.
Here it is, when my car starts the fan starts automatically for about 30 second and then shuts off. Sometimes it does not come on again even if the car begins to overheat. Usually all I have to do is shut off the car and start it again and the fan comes on and cools off the engine. I guess something is getting reset? It is pretty bad in stop and go traffinc in the summer and with the summer coming again I want to get rid of this problem. Any thoughts? Could it have anything to do with the thermostat as well? |

The problem can be either the coolant temp sensor (not the gauge sensor) or the fan timer control.
Your shop manual should provide the proper trouble-shooting procedures.

does your car have 2 fans or just one my 90 has 2 and as soon as you turn on your a/c the 2nd fan should start automatically, I had problems with mine last year not turning on when it should, if you check the wires by the front drivers side headlight at the bottom of the radiator, that was the problem with mine snow must have broken the wire. just might be the same thing.

Sometimes, even when the car has sat for a day, the fan will turn on when someone walks next to the car including my 16lb. cat. The battery has never gone down and no overheating problems and the outside temp is about 60-70 degrees now.

It is probably your radiator cooling fan switch. It is located at the bottom of the radiator by the radiator drain plug. I just replaced mine two days ago and it's cool now.
