Revving without pushing pedal!

My manual 89' Legend has been revving sometimes throughout the whole drive or just at certain times while driving and it does it without me pushing on the gas especially when I'm in neutral. This makes my car run through gas way to fast and it's a financial pain! What should be done about this? Is it the engine coolant sensor needing to be replaced or something?

I would try bleeding the cooling system, followed by checking for a vacuum leak/leaks.

check for a vacuum leak first. Turn on your car and spray carb around the vacuum hoses and listen for it to rev up.

I'd check to see if the ECU is throwing a code.

How do I check the ECU to see if it's throwing a code?

Also, what is this carb I should spray on the vacuum hoses? I am going to try all of this and then get it to shut up on the revving.

If you have a Coupe, the ECU is located on the passenger foot well. You'll need to pull back the carpet, then you'll need to remove the cover to access the ECU.

If you have a Sedan, its under the passenger seat. Place the key in the ON position (engine not running), then you should be able to see a red light blinking. Count the blinks and let us know what the code is.

If there isn't any code, where is the RPM needle staying at when neutral? Does it feel like the gas pedal is sticking?
