Dude I can't believe your Legend gave up. I'm so sorry to hear that. You should swap motor, maybe a 2.7 swap Think about man, we got your back.

Engine seize causes...

Most common causes of engine seizure...
>component failure
>failure in the lubricating
>cooling system

Where a component has failed, such as the destruction of a bearing (eg;a connecting rod or a main crankshaft bearing) the engine grinds to a halt as internal friction builds up.

In the absence of any major oil leaks, and if there is no sign of overheating, the most probable cause of engine seizure is sudden failure of an engine component.

Alright. Decision made.

Im gonna rough it on the bus for awhile, save up to put a JDM engine and auto trans (unless it would be cheaper to put in a manual) from a 90 legend. I work at a college so I should be able to get the automotive department to do it for relativley cheap. I just dont know where to get the transmission.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

A 90 enigne's not such a hot idea man....

There are some differences between the engine, ecu and tcu from the other years...it COULD work, but quite a few extra things would have to be done and a few extra parts would have to be acquired....lol I know bc I helped a guy on here get a 90 engine running in his 2.5 car a while back...it was QUITE an experience in electrical madness!! Hahahaha

But yeah see about getting an 87-89 2.7....

Also, is there anything wrong with your current tranny?

Its not a 90 engine. Frankly I don't care what year engine. Its the tranny that I want from a 90.

My transmission
1. Can't find 4th when cold
2. Shifts hard
3.slips all the time

Basically its on its way out and while I have the engine taken out, I may as well replace the tranny.

Sorry to hear what happened. Glad you've decided to tough it out and put her back on the road. I wonder if it seized because of the timing belt? Do you know if it was due soon? Keep us posted on what they find out and your progress on a rebuild or swap.

So it isn't a good idea to put in a 90 tranny?

The 90' tranny has to be with the 90' motor cause their trannys are designed differently. Try getting an 86-89 tranny.

Sorry to hear about your engine dying... sucks to have that happen, i know i would be upset if that happened to me.

As for your tranny that you're looking for, I have one from a 88 legend, probably has like 10 000 kms on it at the MOST. I had it parked over a year ago because the rear frame rotted out and i scored myself a 88 manual (which i'm currently selling as well).

Let me know if you'd be interested, I just don't know how much shipping would be from Toronto down to you.

If i can help out a fell legend member i'd be more then happy to help out!

But, if you decide not to swap engines, I could use some of the 1987 Coupe parts which are not available on other models. In particular, the '87 Coupe, I believe is the only G1 with the brown dashtop. I'd like to make reservations for the dashtop center compartment (box around the Info Unit) with the lid that matches the dash, assuming it's in good shape.

Is your interior leather? Color?
What's wrong with you're one? I can check my old coupe and see the condition of it. My dash use to be that brown colour.

Great news that you're bringing her back to life!!! I'd do a manual swap in your position but that's a matter of taste!

It would prolly cost more to put in a manual then to just swap out the auto or else I would.
