Thinking about selling the '87 sedan L.......

.....but not entirely sure at this point or I would be over in the Marketplace forum placing the formal "FS" post.

Anyone that follows the forum regularly can see all of my posts and the questions/concerns that I have had with the vehicle.

It is a 1987 Legend L Sedan

There is nothing mechanically wrong with it; however, I am thinking about going back to a motorcycle (I am a one vehicle at a time kind of guy/gas price concerns, the sky is falling, etc.) when the current insurance expires in December.

The purpose of placing my post today is just to alert any potential buyers
of a G1 Legend that my car is available for purchase in December, 2008; I am in North Florida and in case any one will be driving through this part of the country between now and December, I would be happy to show the vehicle.

The Positives:

(1) I bought it from the original owner; I have 21 years of receipts, the owner's manual and a lot of the original purchase paperwork.

(2) The vehicle has only 153,000 miles on it; the motor is strong, the transmission is smooth.

(3) Just before I bought the vehicle, the original owner had the front and rear leather seats redone(headrests and center console cover as well); the interior, including the door panels are beautiful. He also replaced the front glass (receipt) and the entire ac system, including compressor was replaced.

(4) Since I bought the vehicle (December, 2007) I have replaced the alternator (a Bosch), the rear shocks and a new Main Relay was installed and the entire dash circuit board was re-soldered.

The Negatives:

(1) It needs paint. I don't have the code in front of me, but it is dark grey metallic but the top horizontal surfaces (the hood, the roof, the trunk) were
basically baked to the primer because of a car cover that was never allowed to breathe. I have sprayed the surfaces with several cans of Lowe's flat primer and gloss black (98 cents a can!!) and if the car is wet, it actually looks like all one color.

(2) It needs rubber; no inspection law down here in FL so I have been taking full advantage of the savings; two of the four Michelin tires on the car definitely need to be replaced, two are okay. I also bought from Pic & Pull an extra OEM rim in order to have a full size spare, the tire on it has a plug in it, over the course of a month, it goes from 35psi to 25psi. Finally, there is the OEM "doughnut" spare that is actually in very good shape.

(3) The stock radio doesn't work; comes on for 10 seconds, then loses the signal.

(4) There is one rust issue on the rear right roof seam; I did a quick patch with some sealant and painted over it. From afar, not noticeable; close inspection, it looks like your ugly kid sister.

When I bought the vehicle (12/2007); I replaced all the usual suspects:

(spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, cap, fuel filter, PVC valve, oil/filter, air filter)
(tranny fluid is pink, no odor; coolant is clean and green, hoses are almost new (receipts).

I have only put about 4500 miles on the car since owning it.

On a trip of 500 miles, I measured the highway mpg; I got almost 29 mpg. (I never drove over 70; never use the AC)

Haven't measured city mpg.

Anyway, I won't sell it before December, but will probably start the sales effort formally (local Craigslist, this forum, etc.) just after Thanksgiving.

At that time, I think $1750 is a fair asking price (remember, new leather interior, only 153,000 miles on a 21 year old vehicle!)

Extremely ugly exterior, badly in need of paint.
When we have a martian in the White House, I might get around to it.

Thanks Gabe for the implicit endorsement!

Every body knows on this forum you are the man; maybe your kind words will kick out a first-timer wanting to jump in or cause a reasonably close old-timer to make the drive to Tallahassee.

Thanks!

Well a little paint and body work (all cosmetic stuff) and your car is a good reliable ride for a good number of years! I know I have the same car with the same trim
