Tranny pull help

Hey folks.

Clutch just kicked it on my '88 Legend. I need to do the cheapest, simplest replacement possible and I'm doing it in someones garage with minimal tools. This sucks in the first place but I can deal with it. I can't find a really detailed teardown guide though, and the shop manual everyone uses doesn't really cut it. I think I can muddle through (I have friends and family who know how to do this) but I was wondering if there's a document or forum thread that's specifically a step-by-step transmission removal procedure.

Thanks in advance. : )

Shouldn't be that hard, just remove the tranny itself, remove the pressure plate and the clutch disk together. When putting back together, make sure you have a clutch disk alignment tool to keep everything align.

I use this as its very helpful: legend-reference.tk
At the top, move the pointer on the Service Manual. When you point at it, it drops down a menu and click on Online Service Manual. Then on the G1 section, you can find what your looking for.

This gives a general idea of how to R&R a clutch on a Honda product. Some details may differ.

Hey folks. Just wanted to follow up on this.

I actually got my clutch swapped. It was an absolute nightmare, just as I suspected, and I'm still having issues (made a separate thread about them, since the problem isn't directly with the tranny or clutch and thus it's probably easier to find if you're searching the forum) but I have every part back in its place and the vehicle moves! I just have some closing statements.

The repair manual that everybody here uses is a godsend except that it is godawful and virtually useless. It doesn't give the head size or length of bolts, has instructions like "Remove the transmission bolts" with no specification of how many there are, where they are, what they do or a diagram and no photos whatsoever. It's incredibly misleading in terms of describing how difficult a given task is considering it spends two lean, sparsely populated pages describing the entire process of swapping the transmission and I can vouch that if you don't already know how the car is put together and aren't a mechanic it's only good for knowing roughly where you are in the process. I was flying blind.

I am not saying this to complain pointlessly. I am saying this so there's context for my advice: GET THE CHILTON'S. I searched EVERYWHERE for this book and it just doesn't seem to exist, but the other day I was talking to a mechanic my friend was buying a CRX from and the guy had the Chilton's Legend book. I looked through it and suddenly everything was clear. It has two pages describing the transmission removal step-by-step, packed edge to edge with telephone-book-size text and tons of photos answering every question I was asking during the job. If I had had this I would have gotten it done in a week instead of a month. It is well worth it to scour the earth for this thing, and I don't know the legality of it but if somebody could scan it and upload it it would be an indescribably positive service to the community.

You can also get the Honda shop manual from Helm publications. It's what the Chiltons is based on.
