Winter Season Sticky: Sun Roof Leak? The Ultimate DIY guide!
Story: A Couple months back, I was driving to work and all of a sudden... *SPLASH!!!!*, a gallon of water fell on me. It had been raining hard that week and my sun roof was clogged.
I had that problem ever since I bought the car in 1998 but I never bothered to fix it because the water used to fall on the passenger side, drenching my GF (LOL). Long story short, after searching through the posts and not finding a complete guide, I decided to fix the clog. I wasted a whole roll of film documenting every step (I got yelled at by my mom!). Enjoy and send thank you messages to: langjairich@yahoo.com. Key words: Sun Roof, Sunroof, Leak, Guide, Fix, pictures, pics. |

When you're cleaning out the mud from behind the front mud flaps, if you look up inside that area, you can actually see the tit of the drain hose. I reached in there and squeezed it open, it felt like the ends were stuck together. Pouring water in the corners of the sunroof helped flush out the dirt -- kinda like your air pump idea (I didn't have an air pump). Good instructions -- I wish they were around before I did the job last week! ![]() |

The tit pieces are actually two pieces fit together. One part is the tit and the other is a one-way valve consisting of a short piece of tube with an "X"' cut drain through what would be a solid closure of the tube. The X makes four down-pointing tabs. That's basically what causes all the plugged lines. Not sure why they thought this was a good idea. I removed these from the rear drains.
I'd imagine pushing a wire would only go through it in the direction of water flow, but still would likely get caught up on that valve some how. IMO, there's no way a wire would go the opposite direction without breaking something.

I have a simpler way of never ever getting soaked again. I sealed that mother up with marine grade sealant. I now never have to worry about drains, water in my face or a soaked headliner. I rarely open the moonroof up so I'm feeling good about my method.

Does anyone have any suggestions for solvents that I can use on cured caulk (preferably without eating the paint)...? |

I am going to try using http://www.boatersworld.com/product/376970950msk.htm
Some anti caulk. I'll let you know if it comes off cleanly without the rubber/paint. I just razored most of the caulk off and it opens again - made only a few tiny nicks in the paint (and suggestions on what to cover up razor nicks are welcome ). |

I made a DIY. but thats for a replacement. i covered cleaning.
just take a compressor, and find the hoses, no need to take anything off. you can blow everything out no problem. its a thing you do when you bring your car to the dealership for a tune up. at least, they're supposed to do it. but the sealent, use a razorblade, if its silicone, it will peel off. i had some glue crap on mine, hours of peeling took about 50% off. if its silicone, it should come off in <20 minutes |

that drain tube by the antenna motor is for the sunroof? water was pooling around it and was trying to rust the area under the motor so i pulled the tube down to let the water drain out, now the tube is hanging from under my car, im guessing thats not what its for.
