1989 Legend Rough Idle

Hello everyone, new member with probably an old question. I searched the Forums and found my problem, however the responses didnt help, so I am hoping there is more to be offered.

I have a 1989 Legend L that I picked up about a year ago off of ebay to run back and forth to work. It only had 118K on it when I bought it, and it had the timing chain replaced at 100K, the paperwork came with the car. Every since I have had it, it has a non-existent idle, i.e. the tach needle bounces off the bottom stop. I know the tach works, because when you hit the accelerator it revs and registers.

I recently changed out all the plugs, new wires, new air filter, oil change, new battery, and ran some fuel injector cleaner through it. One day on the way back from lunch I shifted into 2nd, and it made a noise almost like a backfire, and now when I accelerate it sounds like its missing, but when I get above 2K RPMs it pulls strong, and hard, with no problems. But at the lights/stops etc...the idle is non-existent. I checked the ECU and there are no lights on, I havent messed with the ICV as the light wasnt on. The radiator is full of coolant...other then that...I dont really know where to start. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Chris

For the tach being bouncy, check the coil on it. Its the one where it connects from the distributor cap to the coil. And our cars don't have timing chains, it timing belt lol. Also, what kind of plugs and wires are you using? NGK plugs and wires are the best for our motor.

Pretty sure I put in Bosch plugs and I dont know which brand the wires were. Timing belt...got it..either way it was replaced...when I changed the plugs the electrodes on the old ones were nubbins, barely even there, Im guessing they were the original plugs..would the coil pack, which I assume is right under the rear of the hood near the firewall cause a rough idle, i.e not enough spark at low idle, and this would explain why at higher RPMS it runs better? Its the coil pack near the master cylinder correct? Also..the website you recomended was www.*********, nothing ever came through..thanks.
