5 or 6 spd tranny

What the best 5 or 6 spd swap for an 87 2.7L coupe with an automatic in it currently?

(sorry if this has been asked already, I'm new on the forum.)

I would guess a 5-speed from a G1 Legend. But, I don't know G1s that well.
One of the G1 Gurus can confirm or deny that.

Only way I could see a 6 speed working is grabbing one from a J-Series engine and welding the C series bell housing to it...

Otherwise we're limited to 5 forward gears...

your engine spins the same direction as the k series 4 bangers. If you wanna do a custom swap, get a 6 speed from an RSX type S.

or go the 'easy' route and get a 1g legend 5 speed.

I've been considering the 04 TL engine and trans swap. It's the only reasonable way to get a 6-speed into a G1. Screw the NSX engine and trans. Anyone who says it might work is full of crap and hasn't done the least amount of homework.

The entire engine and trans from a TL 6-speed could be done, but with lots of work. Plus, it hasn't been done yet, so if you were to get stuck on something, there's no-one to ask about it. You would basically need an entire TL front end, from a wrecked one or something. It'll be a couple of years before those will go cheap enough for me to make it worth attempting the swap, but the V6 engine and trans in the TL sit under the hood in the same place as the 2.7. The shifter linkage is similar, and engine mounts are in the same relative areas. The suspension, hubs, and axles would probably have to swap over also. Another vehicle that is set up like this is an 03-07 Accord coupe equipped with a V6 and 6-speed, but only a 3.0 litre instead of the 3.2 in the TL. I personally would like to find a wrecked 07 TL Type-S, because the engine is a 3.5 litre.

If you want to just do a 5-speed Legend swap, there's someone trying to sell a kit right now on here...

FS: Auto to Manual Conversion (All parts)

This would be the most sensible (and least expensive) way to get a manual trans in your automatic car.
