FINALLY!

I got back from NALM, and I had an e-mail saying this housing was on the way. It arrived this afternoon......

You see the difference from the wrong one they sent here...

It's just too bad I can't go ahead and start mounting this thing. For everyone who doesn't already know, my motor blew up just days before NALM. I was sad, to say the least. The poor old motor, having over 350K miles on it just couldn't keep going with all the abuse I put on it. A piston has worn to the point that it shakes around inside the cylinder, causing a knocking sound on acceleration. I have another block to rebuild, which will have to be done first before I mount the turbo, but at least I now have 98% of all the parts I need to get it boosted.

The lesson I learned while waiting 3 months for the right turbo:

Don't buy from HimniRacing.com

nice to see you got your turbo, shame about your pistons, still i guess you have done all the guess work to find the weak spots for everyone else.

doyou think getting the pistons coated would help? asi have a new block and pistons all awaiting assembly

Absolutely. However...

Coated pistons have to be undersized to account for the extra mass of the coating. If you already have a stock block and OEM pistons, the block would have to be bored very carefully to account for the extra clearance needed once the pistons were coated.

I haven't looked into getting factory pistons coated, or finding any that were already coated that will match well to the 2.7 block. I would think you would benefit from having stronger, coated skirts on the pistons. As I said in that other thread, most of the wear was on the skirts, and hardly any wear on the cylinder walls. Strengthen the skirts, and you solve that problem, but I don't know if the cylinder walls would react well with the coated surfaces of the piston. You may find the cylinder walls start to wear faster, just because the block wasn't designed for a coated piston.

My plan, for now, is to get some pistons made, very similar to OEM, but with slightly longer skirts. This will add stability, and reduce the pressure on certain areas of the skirt. This, along with a balanced crank assembly, I think will do wonders for the bottom end, while keeping cost down.

If you try the coated pistons, let me know how that turns out.

legend89chopped- Have you increased the TB bore, if not may be this will also help with bigger injectors and increase HP?

I've thought about modifying the 3.2 liter throttle body to fit, and machining the intake manifold to match the extra 4mm of bore that it has, but that's a lot of work for just an extra 4mm. I'd rather find one bigger than that if I have to do all the extra work, make it as big as the intake manifold could possibly be bored.

Also, mulling over a custom fabricated intake manifold. Since you can only increase the bore on the original one so much, it would be nice to have one that I could stick a 100mm TB on and call it a day.

I'll let him have his fun with that shit. I just couldn't get my head around getting the custom shift linkage to fit into the engine compartment, which will already be filled up with the over-sized NSX engine....and then run turbo piping. I know he's doing a blower setup, but I gotta have a turbo.

However, when I'm done playing around with the convertible, the current parts-car (another 89 coupe 5-speed) will definitely be getting an 04 TL 3.2 liter with the 6-speed, or possibly an 07 Type-S 3.5 liter. I just see that swap going sooooooo much more smoothly that his NSX swap. But don't get me wrong, much props to that guy. If he pulls it off, I'll cream my pants over that car!

I heard you say it will hold 500hp I dont think stock gaskets would hold but i could be wroung.
