Heated Springs???
I searched already, but I read in a post that someone had heated springs, so what is that?! They heat up the springs and the compress them until they cool and harden, adding to a lowered ride? If so I want to do this, is there a risk involved? Will any shop do it? Do I have to buy shocks. I want a lowered ride, but don't have the money to buy a suspension set-up at the moment.

dont do it, it compromises the integrity of yoru springs, its a bad idea, just save up for some new lower springs, you'll get better handling and your car will be lower, but it shouldnt be an issue in fact my car 's springs have actually settled lol becase it is so old.. peopel have asked me, did you lower your car? why is your car so low?

Yeah. Unwreckonized rides on heated springs.
The only problem with doing it is that it will ruin the spring rate and the springs will still be pretty bouncy so you'll scrape on everything. Also, you'd have to buy struts (Tokico HP series--they're the only lowering struts for our cars) to fit the shorter length springs or you'd be riding predominantly on your stock struts. Answer: Buy the Spring/Shock combo on eBay. It's like $400 for the whole setup. |

Here's a link to the item. $350 for struts and springs! And they'll probably give you a choice between Tokico, Suspension Techniques and Vogtland springs. (I don't think the Tokico springs exist/are made anymore because they told me they didn't have any more in stock). I'd go with Vogtland--I have the ST ones and they're nice but not low enough for me. They are pretty stiff though, definite difference.

A shop won't do that. Its an old west coast low rider technique. use a blow torch to heat up the springs (it has to be done well-heating in one spot will create a fracture). then the car drops. You can always get the shorter springs but keep the same shocks/struts

horrible idea, 1st off how your going to affect the spring rate for each one and 2nd even if you heated up each spring the same ammount of time all 4 still wont be the same and 3rd its just a horrible idea lol dont do it, you would be better off buying some cheap ass springs on ebay if you really want to lower your car and dont have the cash. but like eveyone else here said better off just buying good springs/struts.

I think he set the brake lines on fire in that episode, if I remember correctly. What a show. Multi-thousand dollar freebies, and ghetto, old school tricks. |

All i can say is i have seen it done and the problem is once you do it forget being able to take off your low springs cause you hate the ride height you have to go off and buy new springs to get it back. i mean look at it you buy a lowering kit you dont like it then you just put the stock back on. You get crazy trying to ghetto modify your stock and mess it up then your back to buying the expensive kit anyways cause you were to cheap in the first place.just save your time and money lowering springs are the way to go over the adjustable ones too cause it allows you to keep close to proper geometry of your suspension. thats key or you then get to replacing all the ball joints and bushings prematurely and who wants to pull apart their car once a year cause they were to cheap to save and do it right
