I have lots of experience with fuel injectors and programming as I did an engine management system on my last car that I added a turbo to. First of all is it the injectors or the O-rings that connect them to the fuel rail. Second, what is your goal with this car, what kind of engine mods do you plan? A otherwise stock motor with an intake and exhaust doesn't need bigger injectors or higher fuel pressure. Too much fuel removes the oil from the cylinder walls and the motor burns up from friction and looses power. Too little fuel and it runs lean and detonates. The only way to gain power or efficiency from a mostly stock engine is to increase the atomozation of the fuel, or how misty it is, the finer the drops of fuel. The only real way to do this is to raise the fuel pressure and then shorten the injector pulse widths proportionally. That way the motor still gets the same amount of fuel but it is shot at a higher pressure for less time, this increases the atomozation of the fuel or the mistyness of it. Just think what happens when a fuel injector is dirty, the injector has many small holes in the bottom that the fuel comes out of or is injected. If a few holes are clogged the spray pattern is lowsy and so is the power and efficiency of the motor.

i was looking at aftermaket ones that only increase the flow by 10% or so, i know that fuel atomization is key, that is the main reason for me wanting to replace them, old ones won't perform as well as new ones would, but i don't want stock injectors because of how expencive they can be and atermakets might even be better for a cheaper price, but i am not sure, got any ideas? thanks for the help.
by the way what other mods can i do to this car that would need better injectors, from what i have seen there isn't much out there, i am always looking for an edge.

Even 10% more fuel will decrease power if it isn't needed. Get two O2 meters and mount them to your A-piller, one for each sensor. If thwe meters read red or orange for longer then 1 second while at full throttle then you need more fuel. Yes new injectors will generally perform better then old ones because they are clean. Ford motorsport injectors are a good choice because of their spray pattern, but just aftermarket injectors aren't really any different then stock. Find out what size injector the legend uses probably 19 or 24lb. Also find out what style, I think it's Bosch but double check. This will help when looking for injectors as they usually won't say, "fits legend." Internal mods, superchargers and turbos and nitrous are what requires more fuel. But the fuel has to be increased only when needed not all the time. Internal mods are high compression pistons, port and polish, etc. Pulleys and aluminum flywheels won't require more fuel. If you are looking for more power speed, make sure you drive a 5 speed to start and then consider swapping in a JDM motor. Also nos is nice for that added boost of power.

They will ship and for OEM Honda parts, they sell CHEAP! Just make sure the cost plus shipping is worth the total price vs. something else.

If you're running a NOS brand Nitrous setup, you shouldn't be running lean at all.
change the injectors & go from there

what does the JDM engine have over ours?
And how much is an aluminum flywheel, what exactly does it do, and how much hp/pickup/highend does it add? Thanks

from what i have seen (anyone correct me if im wrong) the JDM engine is higher compression 9.4 to 1 vs. 9.0 to 1 that and they are cheap, and have very low miles. on the aluminum flywheel, not sure who makes one for our cars, or how much they are. but from experience, be carefule with them, sure they give you quick revs, feels like more power, and less stress on the engine bearings, things like that. the problems i ran into was the engine felt rough, and i warped the flywheel after some abuse. so i would try to find a good quality one that is lighter, but not too light. i would try a ZEX light weight flywheel, it's not made of aluminum so they say it won't warp near as easy. hope this helps, good luck.

ABout the fuel injectors...
I just recently had my 1988 2.7 with 170K rebuilt. Stock compression(do to likelyhood of future turbo). I had a good amount of head work done, port/polish, etc etc, so along with a custom K&N intake, and exhaust the car breathes so much better. Personally, i think venom (venom-performance.com) makes application specific, QUALITY OEM style parts for the gen1 legend. Specifically, i picked up a set of injectors(oem style, again) but with 10% increase in flow. They work great. In fact it picked up a few 10ths on the 1/4mile. venom also makes a chip(the venom400) wich adjusts the TPS for wide open throttle, again, taking a few 10th off the 1/4mile. And lastly re: venom, they put out a variable fuel pump, which, along with a FP regulator(app. specific from either weaponR or Holley) you have all the bases covered. Ive replaced the factory clutch witha centerforce dual friction clutch, and this gen1 is a beast. Ive always been a eliever in go before show, so needless to say, my interier needs help! the leather is cracked and beat up, as well as the fit/finish of the interior. specifically, theres been wear and tear on the door and accompanying panels. any suggestions? i was never any good with all thise clips, etc etc, and now that the car runs better than new, i want it to feel new as well..... |
