Back to the Track.

Headed out to the track this evening. It was quite chilly, so I'm glad it coincided with the track being open and the ability to go. I'll let the slip to most of the talking. My best 60" of the night was 2.355 and best 1/8mile was 9.741.

Oh and for those who have discussed shifting techniques of the A/T with me. Holding 2nd gear out to 7k dampens the time.

Dare I say Type I A/T Emperor? lol.

You are very correct. I didn't have any real camera with me. So I tried using my LG phone video camera(a scant 1.3MP) - with a 2gig memory stick in it. And every time I seemed to have it recorded. It either gave me an error when trying to save, or it just lost it for no reason.

Frustrating enough, I can't reproduce this. So I firmly believe I wasn't meant to have a video. If I ever go to the track again. I will definitely mount a real camera.

Could you explain a little more, on my auto I always thought it was fastest when I held the peddle completely down the whole time.

Nice times Edify, great with a type 1 actually.

What was the temp?

Start off in D1, brake torque sling shot or just brake torque if you dont have it down. Shift into D3 just as you see the needle at 6000rpm. This is the best technique to use when racing the auto, believe me, it's tried and true.

I guess I'll head down the track with the type 1 6 speed and see what this biatch will throw down once the track opens in May.

Damn New England weather.

Um, yeah.... D1 to D2 = big No No and a clunk to remind you that's it's not healthy.

The technique I had discussed with Dv8/sr5guy and a few others was to go 1-D3-2 to avoid the 1-2 transmission dump. Albiet sr5guys and mine both admit to feeling a pause when going back into D2 which doesn't offset the benefit of now being able to rev to 7k vs. 6.3k.

Temp was about 50F.

That was the idea - greater hp/tq under the curve. Debunked.

doesnt telions chip let you rev to 7k anyways? and i never tried to do it to my poor tranny but how high could you stall before your brakes cant hold anymore?

well its not really the brakes that are a factor to that, the torque converter only lets you rev so high, i think it was like 2k or 2.5k but the brakes will hold you no problem at that rpm. also the chips available for auto do no let you shift higher in d3or d4, you have to manually shift the auto to get it to higher rpms, because the shift points are controlled by the trans computer.

I think stock torque converter holds ~1900rpm. In D3, even with chip, it will hold 1st and 2nd only to 6300rpm, but it will take 3rd to 7k+ until you put it in D4.
