No problem. We had the SCCA set up the track for the first National Meet in Dallas. There was a lot of talk then about getting a Legend group together to attend more events of theirs but it never happened. Very fun stuff!

Just one thing to keep in mind with SCCA: they despise boosted cars. The only class that I know allowing forced induction in road racing is Improved Touring "E", which is a catch-all class for "streetable" cars that don't fit in any other Improved Touring class. Large disparities in power to weight ratio and handling capabilities.

Otherwise, bring buckets of cash. If you're just wanting to test the waters, look for an Improved Touring race car for sale.

Spec Miata is a fairly cheap to start with, since it's nominally a spec class, but again, bring buckets of money if you aim to win. Very tough competition since everybody and their brother is racing Spec Miata.

If you're thinking autocross, things are much more casual and cheap.

Last thing, SCCA states clearly they create the rules to allow you to race your car safely. They will not guarrantee that your car will be competitive. That is, if you want to win ITS, you better run a BMW 325. You aint gonna do it with a Miata.

i am going to run a 325. my one buddy that works with me is experiented in 11 years of coustom fabrication. he said we could make the car work, from roll cage, full suspention some braking and some internals. But that all, i aint going to waste 10k on a 85-89 325 just for fun.

Don't be surprised if the SCCA Comp Board saddles the 325 with more weight (assuming they haven't already done so). Those things are too fast for the class. They should never have allowed them in.
