Did you have to bore the center of the wheel out?
or did you leave the centers the factory size. I thought you had to bore the TL wheels out to make them fit. Just to make sure I have all the facts correct, you put 2002 TL Type S wheels on your 96 RL? I currently have the accord coupe wheels on my RL, but want to step up to a 17 or 18 inch wheel. Thanks |

man please don't waste your money on 18's - especially 17's. after putting my 19's on and now looking at rl's with 18's they just look way too small. 17's - fuggin ugly. i was gonna get 18's and am now so glad i didn't. splurge for 19's at least or 20's. you'll find 20's even cheaper than 19's. -- 17's & 18's are cheap but IMO make the RL look just as cheap.

So if you're gonna get personal...I think the 19's look stupid on an RL. We're talking a heavy car with a under powered V6 engine. It is not a Ferrari buddy. It is an old luxury car, that schmucks like you and I can finally afford because the old geezers that bought them finally traded them in for something more modern. I love my RL, don't get me wrong, but 19's on an RL with a little strip of rubber stretched over the wheel is "fuggin ugly". It's like a 280ZX with 18" spinners, or a Chevy Cavalier with chrome Torq-Thrust and T/A's. It just isn't right. 17's and 18's are just right for the RL. Save the 20s for the guys that like driving down the road with three 20" spinners on their car and the "spare" as the fourth, because they hit a small pot-hole and trashed a rim, and can't afford a new one...now who looks "fuggin ugly".
Don't mind the sarcasm, but if you're gonna dump on someone, expect some dumpin' back. BTW, sweet rims and clean ride. If you had to go with 19's I'd say you made a good choice. Quote:

I seconds that. i didnt want chrome, i didnt want huge, to be honest i was just hoping the that 2005-current RL wheels would fit it, and i looked forever to find 99+ stock RL wheels (not that i like to keep things stock far from it) i just wanted something that looked clean and kept the luxury feel... and I feel because its MY car that the 17" Type S wheels look good... i did put some 18" sterns (black with a chrome lip) on the car and it just didnt feel right to me...

... and again "buddy" - my bad on having you quote my "fuggin ugly" remark, as the proper grammar would be FECKIN UGLY. ... EDITED PART (for everyone except rower4vt - whom already thinks hes my "buddy" & likes to get "personal" before i even acknowledge who the feck he is)... - man i aint one to judge i mean 17's or 18's look decent i guess but since getting 19's myself, i just think they look way better than 17's or 18's & i would rather go 19's or 20's if i was going to move up from anything besides the stock 16's - & that's just me - to each his/her own. i would definitely go with a good lowering though with 17's or 18's, as even my car on 19's could use a little lowering.

Can you elaborate on how an Acura RL on 19" wheels is equatable to a sports car with Spinners? I'm not making the connection and, for the life of me, i can't pin point what you mean. the RL is a big car. as a big car you need either big tires or big wheels to sit the car right. if you go with small wheels and small tires, you'll look like a clown. so if you go with 18s get the tallest sidewall they make for passenger cars. |

The big fat assed luxury car doesn't have to be powerful. It wasn't meant for that. It was meant as a truly enjoyable ride, which it accomplishes on a grand scale. I personally don't like very small sidewalls for comfort and rim safety, BUT small custom wheels look goofy on big cars. So the cost may be high but the result is (my) style. So your opinion is: you don't like 19s, you think it's a stupid idea. That's fine, you are entitled to your opinion. Sadly, where you go wrong is to start lumping us all together as 'schmucks.' Then you go on to make negative comparisons about a car that you own and that I own. I bought my RL because I fucking liked it. I drove LS430s, CLK430s, M45s, etc. and nothing made me happier than the RL. So if you're unhappy that you bought the nicest car you could afford by pathway of 'schmuck' that's on you...it isn't why I'm here...and I'm sure most of the people on this forum would take offense to that. Fair enough. Got rained out a couple weeks ago. I'm trying to head to the 1/4 mile next, I may try to get a meet going out there.
