Engine Air Filter Replacement

I want to inspect and replace the enginie air filter on my 2000 RL.

Obviously unsnapping the 4 clips on the housing is easy, but I can only lift the lid on the housing a couple of inches because of the housing being connected to the air intake tube.

What do i do?

Or disconnect the air intake tube to make it easier to get the filter out and the new one in....
