Car 1: Honda Legend 3.5 JDM

Cool New JDM Legend/RL owner

Hi,

Just picked up my Legend from the docks today, about time since it had to come all the way from japan. Man, I'm so happy with how it looks. The RHD steering is a bit weird at the beginning since here in Holland we drive on the right side/LHD like you guys in the US. Any way, it's a 1996 Legend Ka9, 30000 miles, OEM Navi/TV, which is in Japanese and kinda hard to use. It does not have leather seats, but I'm fine with that, and they're still great. I also have a cd changer in the armrest, but found out that there was no magazine in it, so that kinda sucks. Maybe I'll post pictures of this later so I can find out if its the same changer as in the RL. I was also surprised to find an interior filter in the trunk. It looked like a cdchanger at first but then I found out it is connected to air vents in the back of the car. As you see I have still alot to learn about this Jap car with its weird features.

Grtz, Ransom

Giday Ransom and Others,

Only 30,000miles and Jap Sat Nav! It looks in fine condition. Did you import the car yourself or did you get it via and agent?

I've just picked up my New-to-me 1999 RL35 ("Legend" in Aust) and it's a beauty. I'll get some photos up soon and I guess it's nothing special but it feels better than the Hyundai the wife was keen for me to buy, new, with 5 year warranty.

So mine's a bog-standard pearl-white (moon-roof, heated seats, leather, mafioso-sized boot, cruise, climate-controlled AC) and rear wing and reversing sensors. But the best features!

The body is DEAD-STRAIGHT, no repair, lumpy orange peel, no overspray on rubber, etc, etc. The story that went with the car is that it's a one owner, service stamped every 10,000km (6,000 miles) and NEVER pranged. It's got a total 145,000KM (90,000Miles) and had it's timing belt some time back. All the stories were verified with paper or a check up call to the servicing dealer.

So the first steps are:
1) Check the drivers-side window alignment as it skews as it closes.
2) Replace the pollen filter as the last driver was a smoker.
3) Get some lanolin into the elather seats.

Anyone know if window-rail adjustment saves the life of the window motor?

NM

I did not use an agent in my own country honest. m. I had to use an export agency in japan though because they are the ones that have a license to buy from the auctions. I wanted to go for a nice Legend exclusive with all the options like reclinable rear seats etc. Things took another turn though and I got offered this standard Legend with only 30000 miles for a low price. A Legend off course is already luxurious in its most basic trim off course and to have a car in good technical condition is just as important. The funny thing is that low mileage is very common in Japan. Here in my country 90000 miles is still not that high, especially for a high quality car, 300000 and we're talking high. 30000 is like new and unseen for a 10 year old car here. Maybe this summer I'll look into a nice set of rims, don't wanna mess up the comfy ride though. Also I was thinking of buying some thin chrome tape and apply it beneath the strips on the doors and bumpers. I think the RL's have this chrome trim standard. What do you guys think, would this work to give the car a more classy appeal?

If I'm not mistaken, the RL from 96-98 had a chrome strip that was in the side moldings on the doors and wrapped around both the front and rear bumper. I can't really tell from your pics though, because they aren't close up enough. If you don't have it already, I suggest leaving it off.

Thanks. I definately don't have the strip. I do think they look kinda nice though on your car for example. But I'll think about it and if I decide to apply them I can always take them off if its not a succes. Now what do you guys think about the rims with my grey Legend? I'm kinda into the VIP yakuza style and with the JDM look and the tinted windows some rims can realy finish it off. Comfort and a plug and play solution is important to me. I was thinking about some 18's in the Work Euroline DH style, I love those rims. Please advise.

Just realised I never updated the crappy pictures I made in a hurry when the car came just from the ship. So since we all love pictures here are some nicer ones.

Does the car not have a sunroof? I think all RLs sold in the US had a sunroof...

Is the CD changer really in the armrest? It is in the trunk in the US

Hi Ransom_nl

I might be able to help you source a cd changer magazine if you cant find one. We get japanese imports into nz here in bulk. I can check with some of the local wreckers if you want. I imagine shipping won't be cheap but my time ringing/emailing around will be done on my own time.

Help out a fellow legend owner.

Raz

The clear front light is standard for JDM and EDM Legends. The ones you see now are brand new EDM headlights. I have the JDM's in a box in my garage, they are perfectly fine, but had to replace them because right hand drive lights shine to the other side of the road.

The car doesn't have a sunroof. While this was standard on the US and the European version, it wasn't on the Japanese one. Same goes for leather interior, but I don't mind this, because my none leather interior makes it more special here in europe.
CD-changer is indeed in the armrest, also only seen with the JDM model. I do have this cool air cleaner with filter in my trunk, which takes air from the cabin. + one of the big plusses with the JDM, Folding mirrors!

NZ_Raz, thanks for the offer, but I already managed to find the magazine on ebay, and it works like a charm. Plus it was cheap as well.

New rims are for the future. I plan to keep this car for a while and for now I want to enjoy the comfy boatride. That's why I just purchased 4 band new Falken tires for the standard rims.
