Man, I have changed my oil, brakes, fluids, everything that doesn't require ASE type Ka-Nowledge since I could drive, why b/c I know I'll do it right, and I don't trust but a few individuals anywhere near my cars (even the effin oil plug), hell I can count those trusted folks on one hand even! Besides lest you make $70+ /hr, the 10 minutes it takes plus supplies is by far more cost effective and safe for your ride!
Hell the Dealer is most likely gonna use a high school dropout supervised by a Master Technician not completed by one, they'll even charge you more so they can pay that master service tech salary, while reserving him for real mechanical issues. At least the Quick Lube is gonna be up front about it and let you watch the $8/hr kiddo screw your car up for half the price! Anyways it's your loss b/c Quick Lube and Dealers can afford to pay lawyers and drag it out till you can't afford it anymore, b/c their little knuckle dragger forgot to put your plug in or used the wrong fluids, wieght or type, I know several people it's happened to! Hell one was even screwed by dealer (it was however GM not Acura, but it doesn't change anything), they forgot to put fluid in the transmission when they serviced it, he got 100 miles outta town (road trip to Bonnaroo Music Festival) and it crapped out on him in random scarry backwoods Alabama town (anybody hear a banjo) they had to stay in a louse infested motel, rent a truck for the rest of the trip, lost 3 days total of vacation, and he is still fightin with them today in 2007 when the Bonnaroo Festival was in 2003! Oh he also still owes $6K on it still and it doesn't even run, they offered him $1000 if and only if he bought another NEW GM product! Moral of the story: Quit being lazy and if it's dirty you're frightened of being, some GOJO orange will fix it, Peace MattyB Unless of course you're rich bitch, then let other people take care of everything and disregard the above statements! |

If I take my RL to the dealer it cost me about $42. Sometimes I will, otherwise I change it myself. It's not hard at all, once you do it the first time its a piece o' cake the next time.

I never, ever take my car to jiffy lube. They won't use a honda filter and they don't know about that washer that needs replaced every time. I either do it myself, take it to Acura, or take it to my import mechanic. I like Acura because they wash my car when they change my oil, and I ask them to look at this or that and they don't charge me the extra fee.

I run synthetic so dealers get way too pricey for me. I stop by the dealer and pick up washer+oem filter and then either come back and do it in my garage or if I'm too busy with work drop it off at my import specialist mechanics for the day (he gives me a Civic as a loaner for the day) and pick it up after work, He charges me $30 (including the oil, cleans the K&N filter, tops up windshield fluid, washes and vacuums the car). I think it's a fair price for the labor. Gives me a discount as I've been going to him for years.

change the rl & wifes odyssey myself - van currently AMSOIL w/amsoil filter, rl currently RP w/mobil1 filter. i don't know of any jiffy lube type places in town that even offer these oils or filters. they will charge 60-70 to give you castrol synthetic w/ some cheap ass filter & i'll WAY pass on that.
