Was there a change in redline on the 02-04 RLs?

Simple question, do the 02-04 acura RL's with the higher HP motors (yes I know the differences are in the intake, exhaust, and ecu) have a higher redline and fuel cutoff than the 96-01's?

according to the factory service manual the 04 RL has a 5900RPM rev limit, but unless my electronic magic tach is wrong, I think mine will rev to 6100RPM...going to check the nitrous controller readout.

Rev limiter and fuel cutoff are two different settings. For instance the type I's rev limit is 6250, fuel cutoff at 6500. The type II's rev limit is 6700, fuel cutoff 6900. I would expect for your RL's fuel cutoff to be higher than the 5900 rev limit.

Thanks for answering my question!

I think there is a difference... by less than ~500RPM though.
It always seems like my 2001 shifts earlier than my 2004, when I floor it.
hnic, i'm waiting for you to confirm my results

I don't get it, how can a car rev past its rev limiter? Perhaps the car just pulls timing at 6250 and a fuel cut at 6500? Otherwise a 'rev limit' wouldn't allow the motor to overrun that RPM, right?

Verified by the way, 04 RL will rev to 6.1k rpm.

I've wondered that too but i have heard a couple different reasons that u can go past ur rev limiter, for example i've heard that given the mods done to your car it can change the rev limit, i've also seen from experience when I seafoam my car i can go past my rev limit, the last thing i've heard was that stock tachs are not that accurate.

Clarifying further, take the type I for instance:

The red line on the tach is 6250.

The red line in the owners manual is 6250.

The fuel cut in the ECU is 6500.

Best I can guess is that in an M/T car (or while manually shifting your A/T) if you shift right at redline and the fuel cut was set at exactly red line (6250) on the tach every time you'd shift you'd hit the fuel cutoff.... so they set it just a tad higher.

So it isn't a rev limit, the claimed redline is 6250, and the fuel cut is 6500.

That makes more sense.
