TL = G2?

Even though the RL is actually supposed to be the 3rd Gen Legend, Doesn't anyone besides me think that the TL resembles the G2 Legend more than anything. Sometimes at a distance I mistake a TL for a G2 from the rear. It's cool though. I love the TL

The G1 3.2 TL did have the Legend engine in it. But the RL is still the G3 Legend, if you look at a RL closely, it resembles a legend a lot more than the TL. Look at the door handles, the layout of the interior, and the engine layout, you'll see what I mean.

The 96-98 TL is a legend. Its just with different body panels to make it look different. The body and engine are exactly the same. The reason the RL is the third generation legend is because that is what it is called in other countries. Also the RL replaced the legend as the flag ship car.

nope sorry, the 96-98 TL also known as the INspire in Japan has a body code of UA2 the Legends Chassis is KA7 so they donot share the sambe body. KA9 is the next evolution in the KA chassis in which the Legend body is known and has been improved upon. hence the KA9 being the "New" legend....i wonder what they are going to do about the KA chassis for the Next Legend.

It's not that other countries calls the RL the Legend, it's that we are the only country that calls the Legend the RL.

Like Bang said, the 96 TL and the Legend share nothing exempt the Engine.

Thats funny, I always thought that they just redesigned the sheet metal on the TL from the Vigor and the Legend. And just made two seperate TL's. I just compared their specs to a 95 legend and the legend is actually bigger in every way. You learn something new every day.

In SPIRIT!

I realize the RL is the Legend everywhere but here in the U.S., but it seems that the "spirit" of the RL is totally different from a Gen2 Legend.
The RL is an excellant plushmobile for those out there looking to drive a reliable plushmobile, but for those of us who step out of Gen2 Legends, a plushmobile, no matter how refined, just won't cut it!
The closest thing to a G2 Legend performance-wise that Acura makes today seems to be the TL/CL Type S. The TL/CL, just like the G2 Legend, is FAR from a plushmobile. It can turn well and can get to 60mph in 5.7sec (TL-S 6spd Manual). This is a good deal faster than a G2 Legend, but seems to be the next logical step. The RL is a good deal slower than a G2, but I'm not sure of its time. I KNOW Car&Driver tested a '93 (Gen2) Legend Sedan LS in its Feb '93 issue, and got to 60mph in 6.7sec. I also KNOW that the RL isn't really even close to that time. It only seems right for the "new Legend" to be faster than the model it replaces.

The layout may be different in the TL/CL, but the overall 'Spirit' of the Legend has been resurected in the TL/CL models, they just make an extra 60hp(for now!!!) from their 3.2L Acura V6 motors!

Hey, anybody got a SHOEHORN!!! lol

I'd say part of the spirit of the Legend is in the TL and part in the RL. It's like Honda took the performance of the Legend and put it into the TL, and took the luxury aspect of the Legend and put that towards the RL.

The TL is still considered a "near-luxury" car, so while it shares the performance ideals with the Legend, it's a setp down in the family tree. That said, I haven't been in a current TL so it is quite possible that the fit and feel may have improved over the years. I know that the earlier TLs were quite true to their Accord heritage.

yeahhh. somebody agrees with me. Anyway, yeah I do see what you guys mean in the TL/CL having the overall spirit of the legend. I mean like I said, I look at a newer TL from the rear and sometimes I swear its a G2 coupe, other than that it makes more sense despite the technicalities. It's also funny cause my mom sees new TL's/CL's and ask me if that's the new Legends. She even came up with her own meaning for the letters (TL=Touring Legend.. CL= Coupe Legend) Bless her lil heart..lol:p

the cl and tl take the sportiness, and the rl takes the luxury. i always thought as far as size wise, the tl was closer than the rl. sit in the back seat of both and you will see what im talkin bout.

peace

The TL replaced the Vigor. The RL is the G3 Legend. I have driven a 02 CL, and it is no Legend.

yep, the TL intro replaced the Vigor and was plated 2.5 TL ... with the inline 5 for a couple years 96-98(?).

and speaking of TL, the new one is looking pretty good....latest info is 270 hp, dropping the 3.2 designation.

check the www.vtec.net for latest spy photos or this forum link

Though this is old, I must say, I have never seen a new body style TL with a manual transmission let alone a 6 speed.
