F/S 92 Black on Black Sedan (not mine)
I'm probably selling my other winter car (a ford taurus) and I am in the market to buy a mechanically sound beater Legend sedan for the winter just to protect my coupe. I went to look at this sedan today.
I think the owner is a bit unrealisitic asking $2k for it, but I didn't even make him an offer because I think it's probably just a parts car. The one thing I did notice about it was it is **Black exterior and Black Interior**, which I thought was rare. The interior BTW is minty fresh the leather is in very good shape. There's a small quarter-size crack way up near the window on the dash (probably fixable w/out replacng the whole dash) and the front mats are toast but everything else is really good. In case anyone else is interested and since he doesn't mention alot about it here's my amatuer advanced scouting report; The kid just graduated from Dartmouth and you can tell hasn't spent a lot on the up keep of the car up. It's a type I, not sure if it's an L or LS The body is beat to hell, rot on driver's rear quarter not horrible just typical behind the rear tire. There's a dent on other quarter panel might be an easy drill and pull (I don't think PDR would work) it's rear badges fell off. One of the front fenders hit something and someone did a hack job of trying to straightened it out and painted it with generic black paint. The worse of it is the 2 passenger doors which some body at his frat house side swiped they still open and close but look bad. There's a bad clicking sound on the driver's front driver's side wheel sounds like a bearing, which could mean possible axle problems too. After running for 5 minutes the car idle jumps all around once it's in gear and running seems to be fine...(alot of things that could be) The auto trans seems to shift ok, but fluid is brown and needs to be changed. I took it up to 70mph and no shakes or rattles even with the snow tires. The the ebrake works and the brakes stopped quickly as I tested it ok **but the ABS light is on**. The battery looks like it was bought during the Carter adminstration, but seems to start the car up ok. He has very few maintence records and he had no idea if the timing belt or waterpump was changed, so i doubt it was ever done on the 4+ years he owned the car and the 41k miles he put on it (he's the second owner). The temperature gauge seemed to stay put and normal level and I didn't see any other evidence of BHG, although the fumes coming from the tail pipe smelled a bit different than my coupe and seemed to contain quite a bit of moisture. ALthough he lives right near the ocean so the the air humidity could have something to do with that. The title is not a salvage, but it's sort of junk too since the Masshole RMV screwed up after he bought it and put 188K on it, even though the odometer says only 129K+ at this point. Good points The interior; snow tires, tranny seems fine, it has a cup holder, mileage 129k No check engine light. No moisture in the trunk or spare well. I did not test the AC..I know shame on me.
