Car 1: 1989 LS Coupe

FS: 1989 Legend Coupe LS

I've decided to sell my 1989 Legend LS Coupe. It currently has 144k miles on it, bought used in 2002 with 102k miles on it. Many of you may know me from the Gen1 section several years ago, newer members probably won't. You can search to find out about my history with this coupe. Anyway, it's time for me to move on and sell the coupe, and hopefully someone can benefit from all that I've put into it, and all the extra parts that I have accumulated over the years.

Here's the lowdown on the coupe:

Car / engine runs strong, but the transmission slips when cold, not so much when warm. I haven't gotten around to cleaning / flushing the transmission solenoids, so I have no clue if that would cure the slipping, but it does have one of the symptoms of clogged shift solenoids from time to time - namely the flaring of the engine speed during shifting. Assume that a new / rebuilt tranny or manual swap is needed - if not, bonus for you if you end up buying it.

Shift position console switch should be replaced before the colder months (replaced once before). Issue is that "D, S3, S4, and 2" does not light when it's cold out - causes erratic shifting since there is no communication between the TCU and the instrument cluster. Jiggling the shifter will work, but depending on how cold it is, lighting in the cluster may be not be immmediate. Do a search on the forum for more info as I've posted before. The old switch is provided, so regreasing with dielectric grease may fix the issue for minimal cost. Currently not an issue with the warmer weather.

Center console armrest hinge is almost completely broken - hanging on only by the back end. I planned to repair it with miniature plastic hinges and screws that I picked up at a hobby shop. Haven't gotten around to it, but will provide the parts for you to do so.

Typical rust by the gas cap door, and rear wheel wells. Dent in the hood from the previous owner colliding with a golf cart. Lower air dam torn from the same incident, but repaired so it isn't hanging. Paint is in decent condition, still shines.

Here's the good stuff:

ABS still works
A/C has had an R134 conversion, and blows cold
new Optima battery (July '09)
OEM carpeted floor mats in excellent condition (bought NEW in a eBay auction a couple of years ago)
Tokico HP (blue) shocks
new / rebuilt starter (April '10)
new OEM distributor assembly (Oct '08)
new OEM main relay (Jul '09)
new OEM starter relay (Jul '09)
replaced front (Oct '04 @ 116.5k miles) and back (Jul '05 @ 120k miles) seats skins with new from Leatherseats.com (group buy) - full leather seating surfaces in front, leather inserts in rear
added seat heater to front seats, switches integrated into center console in OEM location (Oct '04 @ 116.5k miles)
16" Acura CL rims with Good Year Eagle RS-A 205/55HR-16 tires. Tires purchased May '08. Good amount of tread left.
'90 tail lights with white turn signal portions
'90 LS center console wood trim, including climate control unit
JVC head unit with HD radio reception and CD
Infinity speakers - doors and rear deck
Crimestopper aftermarket alarm integrated with OEM alarm to allow for two layer security protection. OEM alarm armed by manually locking doors, aftermarket by remote. Both disarmed by remote. Remote trunk release.
Ford Taurus cupholder / change drawer modification (integrated into center console)
Filtrevedo retractable rear sunscreen
35% Llumar tint all around (except windshield)
Stromung Stainless Steel catback exhaust (group buy)
Hella Micro DE foglights mounted in OEM location with matching cutouts in lower bumper inserts and OEM foglight switch in dash

OEM 15" rims with tires
(1) extra OEM '90 15" rim with tire

extra fuse box (5,600 miles on it - new replacement on another coupe, and subsequently removed 5,600 miles later when the coupe was scrapped)
extra main relay (5,600 miles on it - new replacement on another coupe, and subsequently removed 5,600 miles later when the coupe was scrapped)
extra lower bumper inserts
NEW OEM axle spindle nuts
NEW OEM miscellaneous suspension, exhaust, and brake hardware
extra OEM foglight switch
extra radiator fan control unit (still good)
extra starter relay (still good)

I'm asking $1,000 for the car with everything listed. Extra parts alone would total several hundred $ on eBay or the dealer for the new parts. PM me or reply if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Car is located in Nassau County on Long Island, NY.

Screw on/screw off filter (3 OEM Honda filters provided). Not sure if it is a straight swap with an '87. There should be info in the forum of someone who has done a swap, or post the question, and someone can give insight.

Thanks for looking.

I was wondering if you sold the car yet? I have an 89 myself and would love a part car or something to play with that's not my daily driver.

That is a clean G1, but I have no more room for more cars. Somebody will buy it for sure.

I am local and that car is clean (minus the rust)...if it didn't have a slipping tranny, it would've been sitting in my driveway!

hey guys...if anyone is interested in this car and has plenty of G1 tranny knowledge (or a spare G1 autotragic tranny) then they should scoop this up. I was lucky enough to have the privilege of driving this beautiful coupe on saturday and it was a thorough pleasure

if the tranny didn't slip as bad as it did and I was more in tune with the G1, this car would be currently in my driveway.
