Car 1: 95 6 Speed LS Coupe

iTrader: (0)
Question 95 Legend 6 speed Coupe

I am looking at buying a 95 6 speed LS Coupe. It has 118,000 KM or 68,000 miles on it. It is located in vancouver B.C. I live about 14 hours drive away from Vancouver in another Canadian province. I would like to request your advice/assistance on what I should be looking at on this car and/or what I should be asking the owner. Is the 6 speed reliable? Am I better off with an automatic? How does the 95 stand in terms of the previous models for reliability. I currently own a 90 5 speed LS coupe and love it. It has 220,000 km on it and I think that it is time to move up. this car was serviced by the local Acura dealership until June of 2000. Everything was normal at that point. the current owner who says he is a mechanic has done all his own maintenace since then when he bought it off the original owner. He told me he has not done th timing chain which should have been done at 100,000 km or 60,000 miles. He is asking $22,000 CDN for it but will take $20,000 CDN. I don't know how good a price that is. As I said previously, any and all advice is much appreciated.

I'd love to have a 95 LS 6 speed Coupe. I have a 95 L Coupe automatic. The mileage is good too. This car could be a real gem, you won't find hardly any 6 speeds and even fewer with that mileage and from a mechanic too!. Check it out closely you may not see any others like it. What color?

nice ...

i saw the car too ... i just bought my 95 LS Coupe pearl white/black interior (same as the one you're looking at) for C$20,000 and that was definitely a good deal ... mine is auto ... but it only had 58k kms on it ... i had the dealer appraise it and they said that they'd pay more for it ... if i was ever going to sell it ...

i'd say get it for C$20k and get the timing belt done right away ... just check and make sure that the car has been serviced over the last 7 years ... 118k kms is less than average ...

Mike, I currently own a 94 LS Coupe automatic. It has 140K miles on it (not KM) and I have been very, very satisfied with the car's reliability. Aside from normal maintenance expenses, I have had to replace the brake master cylinder, differential seal, one tie rod end, A/C condensor and hoses, and the radiator (which was a really bad design for this car...plastic tanks that eventually get hairline stress cracks and if left unattended will cause overheating and REAL damage to the engine heads by warping them). All of these were replaced at near 100K miles...I would not hesitate to take this car anywhere at anytime...it drives like new and is tight as a drum. The engine is bulletproof as long as you don't overheat the all alum engine....While I am currently selling mine (I need a 4 dr. to transport elderly mother) I wish I didn't have to....this car is going to last at least another 140K miles, as long as you maintain it properly. The US spec for changing the timing belt is 90K miles not the 60K you noted (unless Canadian models had a different spec). As far as stick vs. auto...I had a NSX 94 stick that was nice, but the clutch was undersized for that car...had a double disk setup that is not like the Legend....with a stick you will eventually replace the clutch, and with the auto you may have an even more expensive replacement at some point (but not necessarily so). I prefer the auto, given my driving style and age (55). My mileage is around 24mpg, so I don't push it very hard as you can see...others on this board complain about low MPG, but I suspect their feet are pretty heavy on the gas!!! I would say the Legend is one of the best cars I every owned (I bought 3 of them, 91,92,94 models)...much more reliable than any BMW (I have one of them too...wifes convertible) or domestic car....I do like Toyota too....bought one for my daughter and am buying a Highlander to replace the Legend....go for it!

I also saw the ad too. Thats a sweet 6 speed. If I had the money I would have buy it. Oh Well, $20,000 is expensive I saw a 95 6 speed last year for 19,000 CND with lower kms than that, same color.

Car 1: 1993 LS Coupe, 6 Speed

iTrader: (0)
$.02

Mike,
By the sounds of it the car is a really good deal. Lets look at it this way.....

I bought my 93 6 speed coupe with 119 000kms for $18500 (was asking $19500)

At the exact same time, Silverhill Acura in Calgary was asking $23500 for the same car, same year, and almost identical mileage (110 000km). It did sell for that price..... so if you can get it for 20k, spend $1000 on the 60k service, you will haqve a car that should be pretty much maintenance free until the next major service.

Expect to replace

1- Radiator (DO NOT DELAY... usually between 100-160k kms)
2- Tranny mount (at some point in time, depending on how the car was driven and how hard you drive it).
3- brake master cyclinder (mine went at over 200 000 km on my 91, so did my dads 92 sedan).

The 6 speed tranny is very reliable and from what I have heard from another member (ChrisK), there has been no one on these forums that has ever had to rebuild one. The clutch can be expensive if you have to replace the flywheel ($1500CDN).

I say go for it..... I love my 6 speed and I get nothing but compliments from people who ride in it and who look at it. Very reliable as well. Just think how exciting the drive from Vancouver through the rockies will be with the 6 speed (I bought mine in Edmonton and drove it back to Calgary.... boring but worth it). I have already driven into the BC interior mountains in my 6 speed and it was a blast....Good luck

Cole

Bigdad.....
As for you comment on the US spec 90k timing belt interval, the Canadian spec is 60 k miles (100 000km) which is posted at the dealership in the service dept. I think originally it was 160 000km. Their reason for it at the dealership is- the cold winters that we experience are more stressfull on the t- belt(I think its a ploy to sell more timing belts). My Dad who lives in TO changed his t belt on his 92 sedan at 140 000km. I believe all imports in Canada have a recomended 100 000km timing belt change interval.
