'95 LS Coupe 6-speed manual

I'm trying to determine a fair price for my beloved Legend with blown head gasket. The car is in pristine condition (garage kept) and has been well-maintained during it's 187k miles. I recently changed timing belt and water pump (for second time), as well as passenger compartment blower motor, Alpine multi-disc changer and Bridgestone Potenza tires. Other than the head gasket, the car is phenomenal.

The KBB value for the car is just under $2000, but I've had plenty of folks stop me and admire the car in the past couple years, and when they learn it's one of the rare 6-speed manuals with Type II engine, they asked me to contact them if I ever decided to sell.

Any idea what this car is worth to someone who knows/loves Legends?

Have you thought of replacing the engine? As it sits, scrap value is about $400. With a running engine, it would be worth $3 - 4K. A "new" engine should run about $2k.

sadly a BHG tremendously lowers the value. To give you a honest answer pictures would be needed.

I personally wouldn't pay more than 400.00 for a auto maybe 800.00-900.00 for a manual. (6 speed)

why would he use that? I'd rather replace/repair the engine. That stuff can cause other issue's.

the dealer quoted >$3000 to repair head gasket (which I assume is a more likely remedy than locating a Type II engine that I can be confident was maintained as well as mine, other than the BHG).

does the quote sound about right? I have a decent mechanic that likey will do it for less, but my understanding is they have to send the HG to be "machined" (??) in order to repair.

any thoughts/suggestions?

The heads don't need to be machined unless your car was severely over heated. before spending 3k for a HG job.

It would be cheaper to do a 3.5rl swap or you can get a low mileage Jdm engine for around 750.00-900.00

You are not that far from CT, sr5guy has done a lot of head gaskets and 3.5 engine swaps. Believe he does HG for 1500-2000 and 3.5 swaps for 2000-2500.

Wouldn't the 6 speed transmission alone be worth 1500ish?

Only if it was super low miles and you knew it. Who in their right mind would drop that on a trans then a month or a year later have to rebuild it and the rebuild kit is around that much if not more!
