ASAP How dangerous is it to drive with a bad CV Joint?

Im pretty sure I have a bad CV joint / maybe axle but I need to drive to vegas in like a day... friday. Thats about 1000 miles for me... How dangerous is this... and how long would it take a shop to replace my axle if I took it on and approx. what should it cost? Could a shop do this in one day... its fairly imperitive I go...

shouldn't be dangerous at all...expecially at highway speeds. you may just incur alot of vibration under acceleration on the highway but other than that, it should be okay. my mom's geo rode on one for 60,000 miles This is not to say that it's okay to ride on it for ever as you could eventually break or ceize(sp?) the joints.

It's normally around 250 dollars at most down to about 170. part and labor. that's about an hour labor and part charges.

If the joint seizes you could strike up a conversation with the lord really fast. Get it replaced.

You don't want to take a chance, get it replaced and your drive will be a lot more enjoyable. Make sure they use new axles and not reman.

ya, i've got an auto. and if i ever drive it manually, it does kinda jerk from 1-2. but i've found if you let of the gas some, it's much smoother. but how much of a jerk are you talking about? btw, you should probably make a thread with all your questions/problems...

OMG! Drive manually in Auto????? LOL.
No, please do not make another thread. The problems he is experiancing is common. Instead please use the search and you will find your answers which are a lot better then letting off a gas a bit. I promise it will help.

i was saying make another thread because he said he had a lot of other questions. i dont really mean "manually", just shifting through all the drive gears.

This is normal. As far as I know even brand new Legends (autos) were known for having rough shifts from 1st to 2nd. This is something I looked in to before recently buying my 95. After test driving 2 Legends (one with 90K and the other with 120K miles) that did the same exact "jerk" from 1st to 2nd I realized that this may just be normal... and it is.

It might be a the beginings of a bad rear mount...I recently replaced my rear mount this weeks did wonders for my car it runs smoother and faster. You should get it checked out it'll get really bad later trust me. I drove on it for 7 months before I did anything.

I installed the leather and painted the car about a yr ago. The only performance stuff (if you wanna call if performance) are a weapon r secret intake and a legend specific remus exhaust.
it's automatic.
