Car is back to nearly 100% (finally)
After a long time of having a "bad steering rack" as some of you might know, I took it to my personal mechanic a few weeks ago, and they realized it was ONLY the drivers side inner tie rod that was bad, but they could not get them. So last week, I go up to the Acura dealer, and just my luck, they not only have an inner tie rod in stock (brand new) but they also have the boot in stock.
For those who are not aware, I have basically killed my two front tires because of this problem. I has been out of alignment for a few months, and driving on Z rated khumos with off balance steering = bye bye tread. The tread is still kind of there, but way too much for only having the wheels/tires since June/July. So, my mechanic is such a great guy, not only does he do the inner tie rod work for a few hundred $ less than the shop that told me i had a bad rack wanted, but they aligned the car for 1/2 price. I then went yesterday (monday) and rotated my tires, and everything is great. Steering is straight, when you step on the gas/brake, the wheel doesnt go one way or the other. All good. Another thing. a few of you might have known about my clutch pedal problem (had it since I bought the car) The shop that inspected the car before I bought it said I needed a new clutch hydraulic system. It still drove fine, so I did not bother with it. Until a few weeks ago (day before christmas) I had not had any problems. after coming home from a trip, as soon as I stepped on the clutch, it went straight to the floor, no resistence. I refilled the reservoir, and pumped it a few times, and got a *tiny* bit of pressure, but not enough to switch gears. I let the car sit for a few days, and on the next monday, I took it into my great mechanic, thinking it was the master/slave cylinder that finally died, and I was ready to fork up the ~$300 to pay for it. He calls me back about an hour later and tells me my car is ready. I go up there, and it turns out that some adjuster under there that actuates the master cylinder, a bolt had fallen off, and was not in place correctly. Well, after a new bolt, my clutch was good as new. I recent adjusted the pedal, so I barely even have to press on it for gear changes, and my 1-2 2-3 gear changes have improved greatly! The car barely has enough time to shift its weight back to the front before i have it back on the gas. I used to be able to scratch the back tires (dented quarter panel, back drivers tire rubs sometimes) while racing, but now the car doesnt move enough to even get close! 168,000 miles, and it really isnt showing its age. I love hondas build quality. |
