Check engine : code 12.
My 94 L 161k miles sedan with Auto tranny got check engine light turned on...
![]() Check the code and it is 12, which is something about EGR. I am currently trying to diagnose what went really wrong. problem is I also have to drive it for daily commuting. 2 Questions, 1. Is it ok to drive it with EGR problem? 2. Is it common problem? Thank you in advance. |

I have the same code since day one (actually since 39.5K miles from a Toyota used car dealer).
It would only comes on on longer trip. i was told by a technician "not to worry" , it only affects the emmssion stuff/air mixing percentage (?). Never really bother me thou. |

Is this the same for the ABS? My ABS light came on. How do I find out what is wrong?

Try to reset the system by pulling the ABS fuse in the fuse box...... if that does not work you may have to try and acquire the trouble codes from the ABS connector in the passenger side kick panel. MY ABS light was on for about 3 weeks, and finally I was going to get the codes and I figured why not pull the fuse.... well I did and it reset the system and everything was good until I sold the car back in January.

I had the same problem not too long ago, the only difference is that i knew where the hose was leaking from.. It has to do with your vacum hoses.. check to make sure they are all connected and none is loose, my problem happen to be a small black container below the airbox, had two air hose running into it, one somehow came loose, probably when i was installing the engine. Anyways check your vacum hoses and make sure none is loose, might take you some time though!
Peace!

Looking at your milage I would guess your EGR valve is blocked. When I rebuilt my heads I look the EGR off and cleaned it out with a screwdriver and carb cleaner. Mine was completely solid with carbon deposits...at 140K. Its a DIY job, the EGR is on the back of the engine....just be carful with the seal around it.
