D4 Flashing/No Speedo Are they connected

I did a search about the MPH indicator and the d4 flashing, but I am not sure of what I read.

1. My D4 flashes after driving for a while - If I shut the car off (while still driving) and back on, it goes away for a while, but after a while it flashes again. I dont know if it is doing it in some sort of pattern (blinking 10, 11 or whatever times), but it flashes.

2. Every now and then, my spedo dies, but after a bump or two, it comes back - may die again, but generally after a while, it comes back working.

The tranny is shifting fine through all gears and is not sluggish while the flashing is going on - running fine on the highway and everything. In fact, I drove all the way from Philly this evening without a hitch other than the speedo dying and then coming back and the d4 flashing the whole way.

From what I read that I am a bit confused about: Are the two issues connected? AND is this going to cost me or is it a simple issue to correct.

Let me know soon if possible because I am going on vacation to Mystic Conneticut (and no I dont gamble so no Foxwoods or Mohegan sun )

Need a new VSS.

The problems are related. The blinking D4 is the computer throwing failure codes at you and the dead speedo is the VSS not working.

Search ebay for the kit to rebuild and look in the DIY guides on how to do the repair.

~$90 and an hour or so of work from now and you should be back to good.

Yeah its the VSS.

I ordered my new VSS from Hondacuraworld a few weeks ago, for $91.99 shipped to my house.

Question. Well now there are two questions now.

Which is more reliable, the hondaacuraworld way or ebay?

AND

does the repair entail me crawling under my car because I have neither the space or the time or equipment to do that.

I might be better just giving my mech the part and letting him do the work.

What do you guys think?

Well the price from Hondacuraworld is already pretty cheap (with our A-L discount) and since their affiliated stealership is up in Buffalo, I ordered the part on Monday and had it in my hand Wednesday morning. Unless you can find a seller on ebay that can beat that price including shipping, id say go with HAW.

For installation, yeah you gotta jack it up and get under the engine. It apparently is a pretty simple job if you have the right tools (which i didnt), so I took it over to PSA's shop in PA and was charged $50 labor for installation. Around $50 for installation at your local mech should be about right... maybe less if you're cool with him

Yeah, pretty cool - but like most of the time when I ask him to do anything, the first words out of his mouth is usally, "leave me $200". At times, that is just enough and others, i had to add (one time he had change for me, but i left it as a tip.)

With the part, it will probably cost me about $150 to $200. That's reasonable. Thanks. I probably will go with HAW, just on the safe side.

$104 from Ray Laks. Had to pay tax because I am a NYS resident. Guy was really cool sounding. Smooth transaction. I am gonna stop by my mech and get him to do it for 60 bucks.

Thanks for the Info, brothers. Peace.
