decisions decisions

just wanted to share my situation and see if this has happened to anyone else. I had a clogged oil pickup screen which acura of seattle sees as a common problem. so i had that fixed but not at acura and now it seems to be that my oil oump is goin out which to me is odd cause i would think that an oil pump in this car goin bad at 116k is very rare but none the less thats where i am at.
but even if for a strange reason the pick up screen was not done correctly thats still a pretty major expense to redo it. so after talkin to a buddy of mine for the same amount of labor he can get me a JDM engine and install it so we would be the difference of a grand between the cost of the oil pump and the motor. now we have done a few projects and alot of success with JDM B series motors but I am wondering do I fix this problem for 6-800 or go with a fresh motor for a grand difference...and has anyone had a situation like this with oil pressure and or oil pump and pick up screen

How was the clogged screen "fixed"?.... I assume you had someone go into the bottom end and either clean the screen or replace it..... I have to ask this, If you had someone right there at the screen, why didnt you have a fresh oil pump installed at that time?

It's not that simple to replace the oil pump, the whole front of the engine has to come off. If the pick up screen was clogged and starved the pump, it may have damaged the pump.

jetdoc thats what we assume....but to give more background and symptoms i bought the car (even though I know better) from a lil corner lot....that was the first problem. but on the second day the oil light was flashing due to the screen beeing clogged and you could hear the motor knoccking cause she was thirsty.....the dealer "SAID" that they fixed it....maybe they did or maybe they tried to clean it when they saw how much work was involved.....or maybe flushed it....but i have no clue and the lot is not taking anymore phone calls from me........so it is possible that the screen needs to be replaced but i am thinking that with the oil pan leak (which was not there til after the lot had it to repair it ) and the clogged screen that it forced the oil pump to work harder then it was intented to do......but then again it is a intermitent problem so very well could just be the pick up screen........jetdoc sounds like you may know the answer to this next question........to change the pick up screen do you still have to rip off the front of the motor or can you just pull off the oil pan?.,........and as far as the symptoms go the light comes on and the motor knocks so it is clear that something is stopping the flow....either the pump or the screen........thanks guys
