Dies while driving?

Hello, all! Thanks to this forum I was able to solve a crank no start by replacing the main relay so thanks to all of the insightful people here.

However; shortly after that fix I began to experience more issues, first that I would seemingly randomly lose power while driving, as if I stopped getting gas for 10-15 seconds as all of my lights were still working. The fuel pump was replaced recently, all of the fuses looked good, and of course the main relay was new. Now when cranking it the car will start but then immediately die if it even gets to that point. Could it be the new main relay being faulty or some other electrical issue? Thank you for your help.

Hello 93 Sounds like you might have gotten a bad relay. My 91 had a relay with a bad solder joint inside the relay box and did the same thing. You might be able to check it by starting the engine, leave in park, reach down under the dash by the hood release and grab the wire bundles there. Move them around a bit and see if you can get the engine to die. If it does you got a bad one. Good luck

Another way to check it is turn the ignition on just until the dash lights come on but don't start it. Your yellow CHECK ENGINE light should come on then go out after 5 or 6 seconds. Now move those wire bundles around under the dash by the hood release. If your CHECK ENGINE light comes back on or flickers off and on you got a bad one. Again good luck

Thank you for your help, but I replaced the main relay again and it didn't solve the problem this time. Unsure how to proceed now.

There is a thread to troubleshoot some of the problems related to "crank-no-start" among our beloved Legends (about 8 pages).

I can't post the link since I just created this account because I saw you were in the Atlanta area such as myself. Long-time lurker now new member.

It might help out with the car dying and whatnot. Seems to be a serious issue to lose power while driving! I had a similar issue in my car twice, one for a bad relay, and another related to low gas. If your relay is bad, you won't hear the fuel pump click and whir for two seconds.

Let us know if you've isolated anything from your troubleshooting.

Could be you need a new fuel filter.
