Difference: Cast/ Forged Wheels

can anybody give me some info on the difference between cast and forged wheels? i have been looking thouroughly at the RH Evolution S7's and came across a post on another site about how RH Evolution wheels (which are cast) have no relation to Racing Hart wheels (which are forged) and that casting wheels is a cheap process, and they tend to crack badly, as opposed to forged wheels which bend instead of crack under certain situations (u know, like big azz pot holes). this disheartened me! i still really want the s7's but im a little skepticle now. legends are fricken heavy and i dont wana spend all the money and have wheels crackin on me! what do you guys think? should i let that stop me from buying these wheels? do cast wheels really have a tendancy to CRACK, or is this just an extreme, but somewhat possibility? thanks fellas

Either wheel can crack or bend. I had old Fittipaldi cast rims that bent, I had 3 piece forged rims that cracked, and bent, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

Forged is stronger and often lighter. The reason is that since forging makes the metal denser (SP?) they can make it thinner saving some weight at times. Anyway, mjority of the rims are cast. Almost all OEM rims are cast and you don't see too many problems with those right? Forging is usually the top models and are multi piece rims.

ahhha. ic. when you cracked your rims though what kind of rubber were you wearing? (u know what the hell i mean). our stockies are cast, but they also have marshmallow tires on them. i will definitely have lower pro's. well, thanks for the 411. i dont think anything will stop me from getting those rims. they just do it for me and give my car the look that i want. BTW, which tire would better suit an 18' wheel?? these are the tire options that wheelmax gives in their package: 215/35/18 Toyo or (225/40/18 Toyo) whats the difference and whats more safe?

dude, stick with the 225/40/18 for sure! 35 are super thin!

215/35/18 will be too small. Your speedo and such will be inaccurate. 215 is the width of the tire (in mm I believe), the 35 is the sidewall height, and is a percentage of the width, and obviously 18 is the size of the wheel.

IE: 225/40/18 the tires sidewall height is 40% of 225 mm. If you use only 35% of a 215 mm wide tire, your sidewall is much smaller! You want the overall tire diameter to be as close to OEM as possible; 225/40/18 is the best you can do.
