DIY - Cleaning Speaker Grills
I figured I throw this out there since speaker grills get dirty over the years and can be a challenge to clean.
Anyway, I decided to go crazy this weekend and really clean the heck out of my door panels & speaker grills. I started by taking off both door panels (see DIY threads on this) which took no longer than 10 minutes each. Very simple and easy to do. I then popped out both grills and sprayed Spray and Wash w/ Resolve power on them. Let both sit for a minute and then put them in the washing machine. Make sure the you set your machine to gentle wash/delicates!!! I only left them in for the agitate cycle (i.e. no spin, etc...). Take them out, and rinse in fresh water. After, let them sit in direct sun light for 15 minutes and then take a hair dryer to finish them off. Good as new! ![]() ![]()

I need to do this on my GS. A few questions: Did you leave the fabric on the metal backing, or peel it off and wash just the fabric separately? I would worry about putting the metal backings in the washer, for fear that they would become bent but I guess the gentle cycle would avoid that. Finally, did you leave the BOSE emblems on or take them off and re-adhere them afterward? I'll either take this chore on or resort to recovering the grilles in black fabric like I did with my coupe... Thanks for the DIY tips. Yours turned out great -- a true perfectionist at work (and I can certainly relate to the obsession).

Nice job- they did come out like new. I would be too chicken to try that, but since you have with success it makes it much easier to attempt. i wonder if placing the grilles in the dishwasher on the top rack would work??

i was thinking that too but you might have to be careful about the dishwasher heat melting part of the grill.
