Question Do YOU have a BRA?

I bought one from eBay. Here's the problem. I have a grille. Yes, I know we all have grilles. No, I mean I have the metal grille, you know the one people have put on either left it as a metal color, painted it black, or like me, painted it body color. Well, if you have a bra, you already know my dilemna!

If you own a bra and have the same situation that I do, what did you do to alleviate it? How did you get around it?

I was thinking of cutting the metal to allow the bra's inserts to get in, but the only problem is, I think it would look sort of lame like that and it would be a pain in the ass later to pull it off, because the split in the metal was wide enough to insert it in nicely, but would take too long to take out.

Of course, if I remove the grille, that would solve everything, but the car looks so tight with it on.

Anyone got any suggestions? Do I need those 2 velcro ties that wrap around and on the bottom of the nose and those 2 hooks? Would it look any good if I cut off those pieces and just left it only hooked on the 2 sides?

Rick, I don't get what you're talking about

Is not being able to see the grille your problem?

naw, he is talking about the tabs that get pushed in under the grille to secure the bra. Hey man, just wanted to let you know that bra will jack up your paint!! I know from experience, but good luck anyway.

yep, no matter how careful you are about keeping the car clean, and keeping the bra clean and dry.....well let's just say you will be putting it in your closet after a month or two. Thats what I did, sold it to my friend and it jacked his paint too.......but they are good for hiding damage!

WHITELEGEND- The metal painted customized grille is on the car already. Like takemorepills said, on the Bra there are those tabs that must go through the black portion of the grille and hook on the inside of the hood or wrap via velcro around the bra itself.

But, you know if you have the metal grille, it sits on top of the plastic black horizontal OEM grille, so the holes in the new metal grille are obviously not large enough to fit the horizontal tabs of the bra through, so that's my dilemma.

TAKEMOREPILLS - Thanks you are right. I am not sure. I've heard horror stories from old Prelude owners and now from you, yourself for the Legend. But, when I had an Integra, it was ok, but that is probably because the car was newer and the paint was not as old or something.

Thanks for the comments.

NEED ADVICE NOW

Those things really F up your paint? I was plannin on buying a bra but after you all said that Im thinking twice. Here is my situation = My paint is almost immaculate /shiny as hell and I take extra good care of the paint. I work 5 days a week and everyday on my way to work I drive over this bridge INFESTED with Love bugs. So bad is this road infested it actually sounds like its raining only its the sound of billions and billions of bugs pelting the car at 70 mph. I can wash my car and go just 1 night to work and my car will be literally covered in them in one trip. So I only wash my car on weekends every week or other week. I know I know you should not leave love bugs guts on your car or it will blemish the paint for good. But I cant wash it every day just to go to work. So thats why Ive been thinking of a bra. What damage would be worst 5 days of getting pelted by love bugs and baking in the sun for a few hours everyday or drining 5 days around with this bra? Ive been dealing with this love bug issue for a little over a year now and so far have only found maybe 1-4 unremovable bug gut stain in that time. I keep the car very well waxed. Do I need a bra or can I just keep the car as waxed as possible and have it protect it.

see, the bugs jack up your mirrors too. If your paint is in good condition now, I would suggest a few things to deal with bugs and rock chips.....
1. Wax your car more often, and use a really good wax. The slicker your paint is, the less damage bug guts will do, and they come off easier later on.

2. Keep a good distance from other cars. I can stand behind this because when I bought my Legend, the paint was perfect, but I am an impatient driver, so now I have a pitted hood, all my fault!

If you do 70mph, that will increase the chances of the bra damaging your car. The bra flutters against the paint, slowly but surely leaving it's mark.......same principle as the CD's in my car. I had 20 CD's in a Case Logic cd case, and I have pretty strong bass in my car. All that vibrating caused the liner of the cd case to cloud my CD's!!! Same thing will happen to your hood.

Isn't that why the Bra is tightly secured to your car? When I had the bra on my Integra, it was tightly secured and I didn't see it flutter in the wind even while heading to Las Vegas at 100mph.

I believe the concern for Bras damaging the paint is really in regards to the moisture caught in between the paint on the car and the bra itself. You'll notice the bra has a cotton or somewhat breathable lining inside and it's supposed to allow the moisture underneath it to breathe, but I'd bet, because of the leather surface, it breathes a lot slower than would be better to.

So, if the Bra is loose, doesn't that mean something is just not securely tied down or possible that the bra is either not sewn correctly (like a defect in the design) or the hood of the vehicle or the bumper of the vehicle is not straight?

That sounds very interesting theory there. I'd bet 9 times out of 10, it's not due to the bass of the car, but due to the usage of the CD case. I've had heavy bass in the car in all my other vehicles except this one and my old Prelude and I've never had the lining out of my CD cases come off because of the heavy bass in my car. Are you sure it's not cheap design via the CD holder manufacturer? I've had CD cases that were given to me free (you know like the Bank hands them out or something) and those break so easily, though I've never had those when I had heavy bass in the car.

I had a bra that I used on one of my cars for about seven years and I can't say I noticed any damage or ill effects from using the bra in that time. I would take it off every time I washed the vehicle and clean it as well as the car. I always kept the vehicle waxed (as I do all of my cars) and I would take it off a lot of the time when it would rain for days on end. It was extra work to keep everything clean and to prevent paint damage, but my opinion is with proper maintenance, you can use a bra with little to no paint damage. And you'll have a lot less dings on the front end too!

I must not have explained it right. I lost my Case Logic CD case with 20 CD's in it, they were all in good condition. It turned out they were in my car, but all of the vibration caused the lining to cloud, or make very small circular scratches on my CD's. I don't think the bass is really that loud in your car if you hav not experienced this, this also happened to my friend with a Chevy Dooly that had 4 stroker 12's in it. That is how I know why it happened. Also, you do not understand the dynamics involved here........You may not see the bra fluttering, but I guarantee it is doing that on the smallest scale, slowly but surely eating your paint. Just because it is not obvious to you does not mean it is not occuring.

Depending on the model of the Case Logic CD case and in what year it was made, some models I notice are more coarse as to where the CD is resting than others, so a coarse surface can always be blamed for a scratched CD. I've seen this lining or cloud in the CD before too, but I can't really say that it's from heavy bass. I could however admit that the CD spinning in a CD Changer or CD Player gets very hot and with more heat emitting from the built-in amplifiers and pre-amps as well as since most CD Players sit under the A/C & Heating ducts, I would guess the heat from this would have caused this internal warping of the CD.

No offense, I don't feel convinced that heavy bass could do such a thing.

You do have a point about the bra and it is that ever so slightly fluttering that could cause some damage to the paint of the car.

Well, no, perhaps your experience is different, I'm just disagreeing with you, since I've never seen or heard anything like it.
