Does Your Tranny Slip? Read This

For the past year and a half my auto tranny has been slipping at 3rd gear. When it started to happen I did the 4x Fluid change with no prevail. At this point I figured it would get worse, everytime I would get service I would mention it but my mechanic said it must be a selenoid that went bad.

After reading a few threads on our forum I became obsessed with changing my Transmission strainer/filter. So I finally did it the past weekend. 14 bolts later I found sludge and a few metal shavings in the pan, the sludge was metal too just smaller. I cleaned the 2 magnets and the pan, replaced the strainer and put Honda ATF and the results...

Slip is gone! For now anyways. This is a testimony if you havent changed your strainer...IMO DO IT!

Just wanted to share

-Peace

yea...i found out through trial and error that Acura Parts department is full of chit.

"your strainer doesn't have to be replaced" is a true falsehood. it's a really fine screen and can get clogged pretty easy.

wild...thanks for post

It would jerk really hard from Park to drive/reverse. I change my tranny (rear) and fixed the problem. I didn't notice it while I was driving.

Changed my strainer

Amen to that. I thought my tranny was toast a few months back because it would slip out of gear and just revved. Replacing the strainer fixed it. Do a search for specifics...

Amen--the only people who claim the strainer doesn't have to be replaced are Honda technicians and lazy forum members.

Check out my DIY:

P.S.
Don't listen to the morons who spread false rumors that the aftermarket filters are paper.

Yeah I didn't notice smoother shifting, but at least now all my gears shift propperly. It's pretty embarrassing when it your speeding up and seems like your driving in neutral.

mean to tell me I put a anoter trans in for nothing.. mine was doing that off and on for over a year well now at least I don't have to worry about it. Didn't want to spend any more money on that if it wasn't the problem so I just got another JDM trans..
