Unhappy Don't Use Ebay Gaskets!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

We'll I'm afraid that after spending $1800.00 to replace head gaskets on a 92 legend, it was all for not. I purchased a gasket set from domestic gaskets on ebay because they claimed they were as good as oem, etc, etc.

Now I'm afraid that after two weeks of checking nearly everything. Thermostat, radiator cap, bleeding, etc. that I have another BHG. The heads were pressure tested and machined once. And the mechanic agreed to use the gaskets, but never said he wouldn't gaurantee the job. So now I'm out $1800.00 and will probably have to do the job over myself to save cash.

Lesson learned. DO NOT USE EBAY GASKETS, ASK THE MECHANIC HOW THE WORK IS GAURANTEED, and if not either BUY SUPER QUALITY GASKETS, or RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!!!!

LOL

Yep, like said they were guaranteed to fail. Actually it was the complete set of gaskets and they did offer free shipping on a new set. LOL, why in blazes would I put another set of junk gaskets in the car? And I'm not pulling every little gasket and o-ring out to get $50.00 back.

If I would have just used the rest of the set and not the head gaskets I would have probably been okay. I just ran across this forum after the deed was done.

Kevin,

What exactly is your car doing? What are the symptoms? How and when does it overheat? Are you sure the fans are working properly? If you start the car cold with the radiator cap off will it push antifreeze out of the radiator? Is there antifreeze in the water?

The ebay gaskets are cheap, no doubt, but I don't see any problem with them sealing up to last at least a few years. I've examined them up close and although they arent the highest quality of gaskets I can't see them failing from the get-go. I have done one head gasket job using the ebay gaskets for a customer on a slim budget, and as far as I know the car is still running good over a year later. What I'm worried about is that you are looking over something simple such as the fans not operating.

-Matt

yeah I bought a set of evergreen gaskets back when I was a newbie and made a thread on them and everything with pictures. I thought i got a hell of a deal. They looked just fine. Then i took the advice of the forum by actual lesson learners that used that kit and i quickly changed my mind. I was told that they are too thick and dont seal properly. I think I only ended up using a couple small gaskets and the valve cover gaskets. None the less i am sorry for your loss

I would also check every little symptom carefully to make sure you have a BHG. What did the mechanic torque the head bolts down to? Did you re-use the old bolts?
