So this last 4th of July, something in my passenger side door broke when some drunk rough handled it. I popped off the door handle today to fix it and and found this:
![]() It's the piece of plastic that holds the cable taught -- the cable that goes from the inside door handle to the door jam thing. Because it was broken free, the door handle didn't actually pull that cable like it was suppost to, instead it just moved that cable around which did nothing. So I thought to myself -- how can I fix this? I don't think I'd be able to find this little stupid piece of plastic on the internet somewhere, but I shure as hell could make my own! I looked around the garage to find a replacement and stumbled upon a piece of metal that started life as some sort of clamp for a pipe. My step dad must of got them from work, and we had several sizes to choose from. The size that worked had a "16" printed on it if that helps anyone. Here's what it looks like: ![]() Next I flattened it out with a bench vice and hammer. The plastic piece that broke holds a metal piece that the cable wedges into. To attach this piece all I did was just drill a small hole in the center of the newly fabricated piece of metal and bolt it to it. Then bolt the thing to the inside of the door panel using the screws that hold the handle to the door panel as seen here: ![]() Guess what -- it worked! Here's a pic with the cable attached:![]() And that's it! All you have to do is attach the door panel (which is a pain in the ass). I hope this can help someone. I would have posted this in the DIY section but for some reason i couldn't. Moderators: feel free to move it if you so desire.

Thanks guys!
The handle is slightly more resistant to open than it was before. I think this is because the spot where I bolted the little clip to the metal thing I made is too high up (or too low down, depending on orientation, I'm not sure from those pics and can't remember exactly when I was putting it together) and that creates a little bit of an angle the cable has to pull through. Its really nothing though. Oh, and another thing.. Sense there was no lock nuts or anything for the little tiny bolt for metal clip, I crimped (just slightly) the threads so that it wouldn't come loose and fall out. Just to be on the safe side!

Wow, great job on the repair. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have that problem.

That's super cool. The same thing just happened to my coupe last night and I was wondering about a few ways to fix it. Right on the passenger side. Good timing. Great DIY.
