duct tape and a block of wood
is how i made it back from atlanta last week in the 92 legend. Have read all the newby stuff including one post similar. When i turn the key and the engine cranks, it drops immed. as soon as i let it go. However there is about a 16th inch where it runs if you hold the key between 1 and 2. therefore the 1-15/16th block of wood duct taped to the steering column for 200 miles. Have replaced the main relay and fixin to get a new ignition. looks like a pain to get out and informed that u have to buy the whole thing. Any other things to try before i potentialy screw it up more?

Thanks SJ and PSA, just got back from the junkyard and found a 93....whole ignition is $25.00 but its got 230K on it. Will try the elect. part first, thanks again for the help, any other comments would be appreciated. Ive wanted a legend for a long time and glad I have it....once you tear into one you can appreciate the engineering, 92' legend, 193K, whacky rpms,no white smoke...

I did essentially the same thing for a few days by using a metal rod against steering column. The other end was through the hole in the key's end piece. My problem was solved when a mechanic replace what he referred to as a "bad ignition switch." That happened at about 220K miles. It was a quick repair with no key change and about one hour labor change plus the part. I think PSA described how my situation was resolved. I assume that the lower left dash panel would need to be detached for access to the back of the switch. (I have never done the repair myself.) The Indiglo DIY shows how to remove lower left dash panel/connectors. Online Service manual 20-63.
