dv8 CAI suggestions / review

After a month of waiting I finally got my CAI from Dv8. It only took me around 30 min to pull everything that I didnt need out and put everything back on.

The red silicon connection stuff is my own from my old short intake which I found out that I can use on this.

The short small tub that connect back to the engine was a little too short and my own red tub was too big to fit in the CAI opening so I had to figure out another way to go around this problem.

The only problem right now is the largest tube that connect to the header of the engine. I did not want to cut it up since I'll probably need it to connect it back to the OEM filter when it comes to smog check.

One problem I found out about this setup is that the CAI would be bouncing around while the car moves. There would be metal to metal rubbing and hitting so I took the extra connection tub and sliped it on as protection for both the car and the CAI.

Image from the back side to show u what I ment

This it the only thing i'm worrie about at this time. When it rains water would be splashing from the tire to the filter. I'll probably have slap some kind of plastic wall to replace that hole there.

I'm posting this since some people read that I was buying Dv8 CAI and wanted to know how it is. And also maybe Dv8 can figure out how to go around some of the problem some of us might have. Other than that, I would also recomend this to everyone else who is thinking about getting this.

The engine is a little bit louder than using the short ram. There is one extra sound I can hear now when my window is down which is the air being pulled into the filter.

Hmm.... no not really. It still rain here like the other city in the bay area. But it is some what warmer than San Francisco. There can be days when San Francisco is completely cover with cloud and it's really warm here in San Jose.

Why do you have that hole there? Did you wear it off with your tire or something? I have a plastic fender liner that extends all the way to the bottom of the front lip. The only exposed part is through the front fog light cover.

Do a search a lot of people have problems with the wheel well liner getting eaten away by the tire when turning. It cost me ~60 to replace mine. I had the same worry about the water splashing up, but I also got a AEM bypass to ease my worries even more

Do you really need to put back in the stock intake for emissions? If so i'm kinda screwed...

I made my own cai with the cai how-to guide thats on these forums, it cost me about 10$. I passed a friend on the highway and he was all like "DUDE!!! Your car sounds like an F-1 car with that thing!!"

And that wheel liner, you should definately cover that up. Crap will be pounding the filter constantly (rocks, dust, water, small animals) I just took out the foglight hole cover and it lets fresh air pour in that cavity where the filter is. Its not directly in front of it either, so insects and rocks and stuff don't hit directly on the filter too often.

It almost looks like it was cut on purpose, its a nice clean cut. BTW if you are that worried about getting water in the engine then just go the shortram

Thats very strange, but the intake tubes are perfect in length with the couplers they come installed with. especially on a sedan.

There is no need for making anything longer, if you do the Cold air extension will end up to low to the ground.

your fender liner is eaten up and either needs to be replaced or you need to get an injen dust /splash sheild. In addition a Bypass valve if your worried about water.

Your my 23rd customer and i havent had any ohter complaints wether they had problems or not, no one contacted me except a coupe owner on one of my first ones.

I test fit all intakes on my own sedan so fitment on a sedan should be the best while the coupe i make a little longer primary tubes.

fusion you out there you just got your what do you think?

acura of augusta qouted me 51$ plus 7$ shipping to Los Angeles for that same exact fender liner. There's no real concern about the filter being so close to the ground, when you have the fender liner on. it created a floor for the filter, just incase it falls or what not.

oh yeah...you gotta buy the screw fasteners (the black things)...i forgot how much those costs, probably a buck each.

i need to buy mine, because my dumb ass of a brother drove my car, and for some reason it came loose, and instead of taking the time to fix it, he just pushed it in and went on the freeway. then the wheel ate it up.

yea, i also bought the DV8 CAI. Install was easy as f*ck considering I hate gettin' dirty and working with my hands. I have the VIS front so the air filter is visible [and beautiful!] The pick up from 25 mph to about 110mph is f*ckin' quick. Only bad this is that it took about a month to ship, but he was on back order anyways...

The best part... the roar from 3k to about 6k is music to my ears.
