Engine not starting
Heres my story.
I come home and park my car around 2PM. Around 4 PM I try starting the car but all I hear is clicking noise from the engine. So i get a jump start from a friend. I get the car going and I have not problem. I drive it for 30 Minutes then decide the car has enough time to power up. I park my car in my driveway and turn off the egnine. I try starting it up again a 2 minutes later and try to see if the car would start. It DOESNT it just makes the clicking noise again. I call my friends up and ask them what could be the problem. They tell me that it is my alternator. Could this be the problem? Or could it be my battery. I suspect it is the battery but I need to make sure I am right on my guess. OR is it the alternator? Thanx for the input guys. Gus |

To check your alternator.
1. Start your car. 2. Disconnect your battery - does the car keep running? If yes, your alternator is not the problem If no, your alternator is bad. Check that your connections to the battery are tight - to me it sounds like your positive cable is a little loose. Has it got a bunch of chalk looking stuff on it>> If so, pour coke or some other carbonated drink on it and it will eat away the gunk. Good luck

I disconnected the battery while the car was running and it didnt do anything bad. I reved it couple times and didnt see any difference so I dont think it is the alternator.
My positive and negative terminals were pretty tight. By the way could i replace the terminals with this kind of terminal : Mine look pretty worn out. Is there a tutorial out there to help me change the wires in the battery? Thanx for the help so far. |

When your friend jumped your car..how long did u let it run? Unless it died while it was running, I doubt it's the alternator. This actually happend to me a couple months ago. When i turned the key it made a clicking noise and didn't start, but when my friend jumped the car, it started. I let the car run 10 mins then turned it off, and when i tried to start it again I had the same problem. I had my friend jump it again and I took it down to Sears to have them test the battery. Sure enough my battery was dead. Once they replaced it everything was cool. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hey LegendaryAcs
Exactly what happened to me. It didnt take long for it to start. It started right up after the jump. I just got a new battery it i have no problems now. I decided to get a new Interstate Mega-tron 85 Month warranty battery. Is it hard to change the terminals on the battery with those cool looking ones? The wires look a little short to reach to the top. Thanx |
