Feeler? Clear Tails for G2 Sedan
Hi All - I am putting out a feeler to see if anyone would be interested in getting clear tails for your Sedan. I know this has been done before, but they are hard to get a hold of.
Not 100% sure on the exact price, but they will be cheaper than the ones made a few years ago. My contact said he can do a few different materials, but he suggests Lexan since it will be the strongest material that is not going to yellow in time. If I understood him correctly, it would be less than $100 a set for Lexan casts.
I am looking for at least 5 people who want a set before I move forward.
I think this should be an easy order to fill. Since LED technology has advanced in the past few years, we do not have to worry about coloring bulbs, using colored filters and dealing with cops who don't like the bulb color.
This is just for the outer lens, you will have to bake and pry off your OEM covers.

Do you have any pictures of previous lenses that have been made?

No pictures, no prototypes... If enough people are interested I will have a set made for myself and hope others follow.
The expensive part is getting the mold done. My guy says he is very confident in forming optically clear products. He is local so I will be able to have a fairly quick turnaround after the mold is cast.

It sounds like you can't lose with this idea. They guy is local to you. I'd get a set made, post the pictures and the prices and I'm 100% sure the orders will follow.
For me, I'd get a set of rear lenses from the junk yard behind me and use them to get the old lenses off.
I'd move ahead with this project.

If all goes well I will be going down there Monday and forking over 50% down. Last I spoke to him, he said it would be 3-4 weeks to get the mold done and a few sets cast.
Sounds like he has some swatches of sample / scrap material. If I can't get any samples home I will try and get a few pics to show clarity.
Now does anyone happen to know how to get that goo off - all I can think of is acetone but that could also melt the lens. I doubt any orange oil based products would work. I will try orange - hopefully someone knows.

I baked a set from the scrap yard, did a little peel & pry to remove them. But they have 20 years of road dust and lots of goo on them. Maybe I just need to throw them back in and peel it off while they are warm. It has been cold here since I started this project.
Took me an extra day to do my HG cause I could barely hold a nut in my hand lol.

Here is the update... I went out to see the guy on Monday. He has everything he needs, as well as my money haha.
He is going to make 4 prototypes of a single side for now. As he mentioned on the phone, it will be 3-4 weeks before we know anything. If he updates me before then I will post it here. So hang in there...
